Buddy the Elf, what's your favorite color? Green — and yellow!

On Tuesday, New York City's famous Empire State Building got into the spirit by lighting up in Buddy's signature colors to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Elf.

The building is a significant landmark in the 2003 film, which sees Will Ferrell's orphan Buddy travel from the North Pole to the Big Apple to meet his dad, Walter Hobbs (played by the late James Caan), for the first time — and Walter just so happens to work in the Empire State Building.

According to a release, aside from the lights, "the building's iconic Fifth Avenue lobby windows will have a magical display inspired by the whimsical world of Buddy the Elf and his adventures" to mark the anniversary.

Ahead of the lighting at dusk, Warner Bros. Discovery also hosted a pop-up cart boasting treats inspired by the elves' "four main food groups" — candy, candy canes, candy corn and syrup — as explained by Buddy in the film before he excitedly downs spaghetti topped with syrup.

Directed by Jon Favreau and written by David Berenbaum, Elf also stars Zooey Deschanel, Mary Steenburgen, Ed Asner, Bob Newhart, Peter Dinklage, Amy Sedaris and more, including cameos from folks like Favreau, 57, and A Christmas Story star Peter Billingsley.

Back in November 2018, Sedaris, who played Walter's fun-loving secretary, told PEOPLE it "was just a blast" making the holiday comedy.

“We just sat around talking a lot. Everybody was always in a good mood; the energy was up. It was a nice and pleasant set to be on," said the actress and comedian, 62.

That doesn’t mean, however, that the movie’s stars thought Elf would still resonate the way it still does this many years later.

“You never know when you start,” said Sedaris. “You do a scene here, you do a scene there, and I can never see the big picture. I don’t really think about the final product at all. If I’m having fun and everyone’s having fun, the chances are it’s going to turn out okay.”

Despite the lasting impact of Elf, back in 2021, Ferrell revealed that he turned down a second film due to it having a similar premise as the original movie.

"I would have had to promote the movie from an honest place, which would've been, like, 'Oh no, it's not good. I just couldn't turn down that much money,' " Ferrell, 56, told The Hollywood Reporter.

"And I thought, 'Can I actually say those words? I don't think I can, so I guess I can't do the movie,' " Ferrell added.
