With a whole lot of hacking going on and a truly surprising betrayal on a show that specializes in backstabbing, Empire (3.1/0) got back some its groove last night after hitting a series low last week. Otherwise it was a pretty steady primetime on the Big 4 and the CW as things moved solidly into their post-World Series, post-election and pre-winter finales schedule – for now.
The top show of the night as usual and about a month away from its Season 3 winter finale, the Fox hip-hop drama bopped up 7% among adults 18-49 from the all-time low of its November 9 show. That comes as lead-in Lethal Weapon (1.7/6) actually saw a decline of a tenth from last week. All of which still set Fox as the top network of the night with a rating of 2.4/8 and 7.49 million viewers.
There was a lot of the same across the rest of the nets, with Arrow (0.7/3), Frequency (0.3/1), Designated Survivor (1.2/4) and Code Black (0.9/3) all even with their November 9 shows. At the same time ABC is saluting as its 35-day multiplatform results for the Kiefer Sutherland POTUS drama reveals rises of 173% in the key demo and 104% in total viewership over the 10 million who tuned in for Designated Survivor’s debut.
Otherwise, last night saw Blindspot (1.1/4), Black-ish (1.6/5) and Criminal Minds (1.4/5) tick up a tenth over the previous week, while Speechless (1.6/5), Survivor (1.8/6) and Modern Family (2.2/8) all were down by the same measure. NBC’S double dose of Chicago P.D. saw the 9 PM episode hitting a lower-than-usual 1.1/4 but had the 10 PM airing’s 1.3/5 even with last week.
With How to Get Away With Murder and Grey’s Anatomy both having winter finales, tonight also sees the NFL return to Thursdays on broadcast TV but now on NBC as the Carolina Panthers host the New Orleans Saints – which means the calm after the storm is over.
