'Empire' Actress Gabby Sidibe's Boyfriend Reveals Himself On Instagram

One of the best things about Fox's disgraced musical soap opera Empire is the vivacious and outspoken Becky Williams, thoughtfully portrayed by Golden Globe and Academy Award-nominated actress Gabby Sidibe. She's a take no-nonsense type of sistah who constantly checks the corrupt Lyon family for all of their lying and horrible ways, but somehow she's also able to show a softer side. And with the show coming to an end later this year who knows where Sidibe's talents will take her.

Fans of Sidibe will recall her first major role as the main character from the heavy 2009 drama Precious. In an interview right around the time of the film's debut (via Oprah.com) Sidibe spoke of how the character felt alien to who she is as a person, yet it didn't hinder her from giving it her all.

Though Sidibe says she hardly sees herself in her character, she had plenty of individuals to look to for inspiration. "I knew her. She's so familiar to me. I recognize her in friends that I've had, and family members, and people I didn't want to know and people I used to be friends with,"

"She doesn't have the greatest self-esteem, and that was certainly me at 16. But who does have a great sense of self at 16?"

Although her performance was critically acclaimed and she was nominated for many awards (including an NAACP Image Award and an Independent Spirit Award) many people were quick to poke fun at Sidibe because of her weight, with some even referring to her by her character's name as opposed to her actual name. It was a very cruel time in her life.

She addressed her critics after her very first sex scene on Empire and in an interview with Nylon (via The Cut) Sidibe reminded everyone immediately that their issues with her weight have nothing to do with her, at all.

“It was only a big deal, though, because I happen to be in this body, this body that I have had my entire life and career. You all knew I was fat then; don’t turn on the TV and still be surprised I am fat. It implies that people with bigger bodies don’t find love and aren’t worth loving. Why don’t I deserve it? Because I’m not skinny? I love my body and I deserve love. We all do at any size.”

The Shade Room reports that love is definitely not lost in Sidibe's life, and her boyfriend Brandon Frankel was quick to shower his lady with love and affection in a touching New Year's Day Instagram post, which read in part "You’re a ball of sunshine, so generous and giving of your time, resources, and love- and your excitement and passion for life and people/things you love truly lights up my heart." Sidibe commented "You’re the cherry on top of this last decade and the foundation of the next. I’m excited for all the matching hoodies, Mickey/Minnie outfits to Disneyland, and your favorite shirts that somehow become MY favorite shirts. You make me happier than I’ve ever been."This is truly a great way for Sidibe and Frankel to kick off the new year. Check out the post below.
