Within the past week, Jennifer Jason Leigh (“Fargo”) lost and then regained her first place position on our Best TV Movie/Limited Series Supporting Actress Emmy odds chart. She is being given a run for her money by small screen newcomer Kali Reis (“True Detective: Night Country”), who maintained general frontrunner status from May 9-12 and is still our experts’ pick to win, as has been the case since May 3.

A week ago, Reis was also our editors’ predicted winner, but they have since gravitated back toward Leigh. Based on the forecasts of 2,400+ Gold Derby users, both women currently have 6/1 odds in their race, with their closest competitor being Aja Naomi King (“Lessons in Chemistry”) at 15/2.

More from GoldDerby

The temporary toppling of Leigh occurred three weeks after “Shōgun” overtook “Fargo” in the Best Limited Series race. Since then, the consensus among our readers has been that the latter show’s best shot at victory lies with its performers, as demonstrated by the fact that lead actor Jon Hamm has topped his chart all season. That doesn’t give Leigh an advantage over Reis, however, since “True Detective” star Jodie Foster has also never wavered as the lead actress frontrunner.

“Fargo” or “True Detective” (or both) could emulate several limited series that won at least one lead and one supporting acting Emmy, the most recent of which were “Big Little Lies” (2017), “Watchmen” (2020), and “Mare of Easttown” (2021). This prospect further benefits both shows’ featured men, including presently predicted nominees Joe Keery (“Fargo”) and John Hawkes (“True Detective”).

The limited program supporting actor race was shaken up last week by the addition of Tadanobu Asano (“Shōgun”) to our predicted lineup at the expense of Hugh Grant (“The Regime”). Having already had the support of our editors and top 24 users, Asano is now the first featured performer from his series to break into our general predictions. He could soon be followed in that respect by Moeka Hoshi, who recently moved from ninth to eighth place on our supporting actress list.

Also inching closer to predicted nominee status is Best Drama Actress contender Ella Purnell (“Fallout”), whose show broke into our expected drama series and actor (Walton Goggins) lineups on May 6 and 13, respectively. Included among the already predicted actors who rose in the ranks this week are Carl Clemons-Hopkins (“Hacks”), Donald Glover (“Mr. & Mrs. Smith”), Hiroyuki Sanada (“Shōgun”), and “Baby Reindeer” cast mates Richard Gadd and Jessica Gunning.

Other performers who achieved better odds since our last update include Theo James (“The Gentlemen”), Maya Rudolph (“Loot”), Lisa Ann Walter (“Abbott Elementary”), Carrie Preston (“Elsbeth”), Hoa Xuande (“The Sympathizer”), and Lily Gladstone (“Under the Bridge”).

Be on the lookout for new state of the Emmys race updates every Tuesday leading up to the nominations announcement on July 17.
