Emmys 2022: Inside the Parties

Walt Disney Company Party, Sept. 12

Spirits were high at the Otium, the swanky restaurant attached to Los Angeles’ Broad Museum, as Emmy winners and nominees mingled with a range of industry figures on Monday night. Among the stars, sipping on themed floral cocktails in the crowd were Andrew Garfield (“Under the Banner of Heaven”), Elle Fanning (“The Great”), Sebastian Stan (“Pam & Tommy”), Lily James (“Pam & Tommy”), Michael Keaton (“Dopesick”), Kumail Nanjiani (“Eternals”), Tyler James Williams (“Abbott Elementary”), Sam Richardson (“Ted Lasso”), Jeremy Allen White (“The Bear”), Trevor Noah (“The Daily Show”), Jimmy Kimmel (“Jimmy Kimmel Live”), Martin Short (“Only Murders in the Building”). Writers, directors and producers on the guest list included Elizabeth Meriwether (“The Dropout”), John Hoffman (“Only Murders in the Building”), Cherien Dabis (“Only Murders in the Building”) and Matt Selman (“The Simpsons”).

But the belles of the ball were no doubt the new winners: Amanda Seyfried for lead actress in a limited series (“The Dropout”), Quinta Brunson for comedy writing (“Abbott Elementary”) and Sheryl Lee Ralph for supporting comedy actress (“Abbott Elementary”). Each had their golden trophies in tow.

Several Disney execs made appearances too, such as Shannon Ryan, Debra O’Connell, Chuck Saftler, Craig Erwich, Spencer Peeples and even CEO Bob Chapek, who placed an all-access badge on a lanyard around his neck as he entered the party. —Selome Hailu

Bustle Digital Group Party for Hannah Einbinder, Sept. 11

Hannah Einbinder was celebrated Sunday night at the rooftop bar of Hollywood’s Grandmaster Recorders.

The “Hacks” star’s television family, including Jean Smart, Paul W. Downs, Mark Indelicato, Johnny Sibilly, Megan Stalter, Lucia Aniello, Poppy Liu and Jen Statsky, were on hand for the party, which was hosted by Bustle Digital Group.

Einbinder and Smart embraced as soon as they saw each other with Smart doing a little dance before they joined Sibilly, Indelicato and Stalter for photos. Smart jokingly shouted at Reggie Watts, “You’re cheating on me,” when she saw him hug Einbinder.

Einbinder walks into the Emmys on Monday with her second nomination for supporting actress in a comedy series for her work as Ava Daniels on the hit HBO show. She revealed to Variety that she’s going to be wearing custom Rodarte on the big night. She had to go to five fittings. “It’s very simple,” Einbinder said of the design. “All the fittings are tiny adjustments.”

She doesn’t have a speech prepared. “I’ve been doing so much press so I know what I would say because I talk about my gratitude for these people all the time,” she said.

The cocktail gathering featured “Hacks”-themed drinks, including The Palmetto, The Comedy Club and The Strip Spritz. Bustle’s chief content officer Emma Rosenblum toasted Einbinder during brief remarks. “You are funny, you are sassy and you are relatable,” Rosenblum said.

And inspiring — Einbinder’s on-screen thank you if she wins will direct viewers to information about the abortion pill. “I didn’t want to put names there because I feel like I would want to say their names,” she said. “I was thinking about doing a joke but then I was like, ‘Don’t be that person!’ And then I was just like, ‘Here’s a good way to get a this message out to a giant audience.’ It’s a very straight forward bit of information about and how to get your hands on the abortion pill. I feel like it’s the least I could do.”—Marc Malkin

Colman Domingo Party, Sept. 10

“Euphoria” star Colman Domingo celebrated his first Emmy win — he picked up a trophy at the Creative Arts ceremony for his work on the hit HBO series — with an afternoon affair at a private residence in West Hollywood.

The cocktail menu designed by Ketel One Vodka included a caviar bar paired with Miniature Martinis, Frozen Cosmopolitans, Clarified Bloody Marys, and Espresso Martinis. The guest list included Kelly Rowland, Aja King, Ego Nwodim, Yvonne Orji, Elaine Welteroth and Arian Moyead.–Marc Malkin

UTA Emmys Party, Sept. 9

This year’s Emmy host, Kenan Thompson, led UTA’s pre-Emmy bash on Friday night at the Rooftop at Waldorf Astoria in Beverly Hills. Intermittent rain made it a bit of a wet affair — and the evening humidity was not kind to attendees wearing suit jackets. But the rooftop afforded magnificent views (and the occasional lightning in the sky) for guests as they enjoyed lobster sliders, spicy tuna on crispy rice and churros with dipping sauce. Spotted on the roof were UTA founding partner Peter Benedek, HBO/HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys, Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier, producer Mark Johnson, Showtime entertainment president Jana Winograde. Among stars in the house: Emmy-nominated “Insecure” exec producer and star Issa Rae; Emmy nominee Sandra Oh (“Killing Eve”); “Better Call Saul” stars Michael Mando and the Emmy-nominated Rhea Seehorn; “Succession” Emmy nominee Sarah Snook; “The Afterparty” star Sam Richardson, who was Emmy nominated as a guest star on “Ted Lasso”; comedian Patton Oswalt; “The Neighborhood” star Max Greenfield; and Emmy-nominated “Hacks” exec producer/writer Jen Statsky, along with the show’s breakout Meg Stalter.—Michael Schneider

eBay & GBK Brand Bar Luxury Lounge, Sept. 9

On Friday, celebrities got an inside look at what the Emmy nominees and winners’ swag bag looks like during eBay and GBK Brand Bar’s lounge at the Beverly Wilshire hotel. With many water stations and oversized fans to help with the humidity, press and celebrities alike were able to learn more about the glamorous gifts worth more than $50,000. Attendees included “Dopesick” creator Danny Strong, “Hacks” guest star Christopher McDonald, MMA fighter Chuck Liddell, “Yellowjackets” stars Samantha Hanratty and Sophie Nelisse, “Echoes” star Daniel Sujata and “9-1-1” star Angela Bassett.—Emily Longeretta

CAA Party, Sept. 9

Muggier than usual conditions and a moderate but steady rain on Friday night were not enough to deter industry insiders from gathering in force at The Rose in Venice for CAA’s Emmy party.

There was ample elbow room across the restaurant’s many rooms, which were strategically outfitted with numerous stations for mingling and for delicious bites served up by the beloved eatery. The iced seafood buffet and handmade pizza shop were busy.

The room was packed with CAA clients and many new faces among the tenpercentery’s agent ranks as well reflecting the ICM Partners acquisition. Spotted were HoYeon Jung, Hwang Dong-hyuk, Ron Howard, Henry Winkler, Patrick Stewart, Zoey Deutch, Tommy Dorfman, Sebastian Stan, Chace Crawford, Jon Hamm, Lamorne Morris, Laverne Cox, Charlie Day, Quinta Brunson, Christina Ricci, Jerry Bruckheimer, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Ariana DeBose (fresh from her D23 appearance) and Lewis Pullman.–Cynthia Littleton

The Television Academy’s Performer Nominees Celebration, Sept. 9

Emmy-nominated actors got the chance to fawn over each other at the Television Academy’s North Hollywood campus on Friday.

“Where’s Melanie Lynskey?” said “The White Lotus” star Connie Britton when asked who she’s rooting for on Monday, laughing as she realized the “Yellowjackets” actor was right behind her. “Honestly, I haven’t even seen the show. I just love Melanie Lynskey so much.”

Natasha Rothwell, also nominated for “The White Lotus,” said that her plus-one for the ceremony will be her manager of over 15 years: “She’s been with me since I was at UCB with beer tickets for a Pabst Blue Ribbon, with a dream.” She also shared that, after gaining acclaim in several supporting roles, the next project to come out of her deal at ABC Signature will be “a show starring me.”

Sheryl Lee Ralph was humble about being nominated for her supporting role in “Abbott Elementary” after a decades-spanning career with no Emmys love: “I think a lot of people are affronted by it, but I’m not! I’m thankful. This is the way it was supposed to be for me. If it was supposed to be something different, God would have made it something different. I have arrived here, now, and I’m enjoying everything about it. And finally, I have a gown!” About Season 2 of “Abbott, which is currently in production, she said: “I hope I get to sing more than ‘Happy Birthday.'”

Her co-star Tyler James Williams, who accurately predicted Colman Domingo’s win for guest acting in “Euphoria” at the Creative Arts Emmys, had a new round of picks. “Kieran Culkin [of ‘Succession’]. And I think the cast of ‘Barry’ will do well.”

The cast of “Abbott Elementary” was in high attendance, with Quinta Brunson, Lisa Ann Walter, Janelle James and William Stanford Davis also walking the the carpet, while Lynskey was joined by her husband Jason Ritter (“Raising Dion”) and her “Yellowjackets” costars Cristina Ricci and Samantha Hanratty. Later in the night, “Succession” stars Matthew Macfadyen and J. Smith Cameron dipped in and out. Also appearing were Sebastian Stan (“Pam & Tommy”), Ed Begley Jr. (“Better Call Saul”), Laverne Cox (“Inventing Anna”), Christopher McDonald (“Hacks”), Himesh Patel (“Station Eleven”) and Sam Richardson (“Ted Lasso”).—Selome Hailu
