Loretta Lynn's granddaughter Emmy Russell was one of 10 remaining competitors who sang for a chance to reach the Top 8. Musicians took to the stage singing songs from the year they were born.

Yes. Shania Twain's instruction proved vital to every singer on American Idol Sunday, and Emmy Russell was no different. She didn't seem nearly as nervous on stage this time around, but still showed shades of her trademark shyness.

Katy Perry was impressed: "Comfortable looks beautiful on you. You sounded the most solid from A to Z that I’ve ever heard from you."

Accolades didn't end there. Luke Bryan was beside himself that "one of your best vocals would be a Blink-182 song."

Who went home from American Idol last night, Sunday, April 29, 2024?

The final three contestants standing were Russell, Mia Matthews and Sam "Kayko" Kelly-Cohen were the final three contestants vying for the one last spot in the Top 8.

Matthews sang Twain's "No One Needs To Know" and "Kayko" sang "Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus.

Matthews and Russell both looked like they were ready to concede victory "Kayko" but when host Ryan Seacrest belted out Russell's name, she broke down into tears and quickly tried to hug each contestant leaving.

The rest of the Top 8 helped Russell collect her emotions as the show came to a close.
