Emmy Rossum’s days on Shameless may be behind her, but her friendships from that time are still thriving!

The Angelyne star reunited with former Shameless costar Ethan Cutkosky on Wednesday, and shared two sweet selfies from their run-in to commemorate the moment. Boasting a huge smile on her face, Rossum, 37, captioned the pics: “This brings me so much joy.”

Cutkosky, 24, commented on the post with two black heart emojis. Other commenters were quick to make jokes from the TV show, including calling Cutkosky “white boy Carl” — even in his off-screen adulthood.

Rossum and Cutkosky played two of the Gallagher siblings on the Showtime series, which aired from 2011 through 2021. Rossum appeared as eldest sister Fiona, who took on the surrogate parenting role for her absentee father, Frank Gallagher (William H. Macy). Cutkosky starred as Carl, who was known as a Gallagher family rebel. Early seasons showed the preteen selling drugs, which eventually landed Carl in a juvenile detention center.

Though Shameless aired through 2021, Rossum stepped away from the role of Fiona ahead of season 10.

“The opportunity to play Fiona has been a gift,” Rossum wrote on Facebook when announcing her departure. “There are few characters — female or otherwise — as layered and dynamic. She is a mother lion, fierce, flawed and sexually liberated. She is injured, vulnerable, but will never give up.”

“I know you will continue on without me, for now. There is much more Gallagher story to be told. I will always be rooting for my family,” she concluded. “Try not to think of me as gone, just think of me as moving down the block.”

Macy applauded Rossum’s decision to leave the series ahead of its final two seasons. “It’s hard not to think of: ‘What would my life be post-Shameless?’ And part of it is very frightening and part of it is very exciting,” he told Entertainment Weekly at the time. “She’s young and I think she’s made the right choice.”
