2022 EMMYS PREDICTIONS:
OUTSTANDING VARIETY SPECIAL (LIVE)

AWARDS PREDICTION COMMENTARY:

Norman Lear just turned 100, and how could anyone pass on the opportunity to give him another prize? He would be the oldest winner of any competitive award, in any of the major awards bodies, in history (something he’s been doing three times over). More specifically, he would be the first 100-year-old, of any major competitive entertainment award (which includes Tonys, Oscars and Grammys) in history.

It was 90s nostalgia turned up to the max, with the Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show Starring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and 50 Cent, that brought together some of music history’s most insightful artists. In addition, it led to the Los Angeles Rams winning the Super Bowl, which is a good home field advantage.

Will Smith slap aside, the Oscars ceremony had an elevated feel, although it did run long and missed out on eight artisan categories.

A love letter to Broadway as it struggles to stay afloat would be a nice gesture to the group that had a great presentation helmed by Leslie Odom Jr.

The top awards body that rewards music had a solid year with great performances and winners. A quieter year for The Grammys, its nom looks to be the reward.
