2022 EMMYS PREDICTIONS:
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
AWARDS PREDICTION COMMENTARY:
Double nominee this year for “The White Lotus” in supporting actress limited, and for her beloved work as Cassie Howard in the HBO’s addiction series, Sydney Sweeney’s best shot for a win is for her work in “Euphoria.” She opted to submit the episode “Ruminations: Big and Little Bullys.”
Kim Wexler finally received her Emmy due. Not only is Rhea Seehorn contending for her first Emmy prize, but she submitted the episode “Hit and Run,” which she also directed, which would be a first for a female acting winner. Can she nab the first win for the AMC drama series?
As Gerri in the HBO series, J. Smith-Cameron performs each moment with precision and grace, proving she’s one of the best in the business. She submitted “The Disruption,” which is up for directing (by Cathy Yan) and that could give her a slight advantage over her co-star, and other competitors.
Australian sensation Sarah Snook continues to rack up accolades for her role as Shiv Roy in the satirical black-dramedy series. Winning Critics Choice and the Golden Globe earlier this year, may have provided the needed boost to get her over the finish line and win her first statuette. She submitted the penultimate episode of the season, “Chiantishire,” which offers many of her best acting moments.

As Kang Sae-byeok, Hoyeon has become the heart and soul of the Netflix drama, shown by her big win at the Screen Actors Guild Awards for lead actress drama, beating out others for a supporting performance. She also submitted the episode “Gganbu,” the sixth episode which stands as the first season’s most emotional moment.
Christina Ricci has never been better playing Misty Quigley in Showtime’s comeback series. If her co-star Melanie Lynskey is contending for an Emmy win in lead actress, the two could be a packaged deal, leading to a moment for Ricci on the Emmy stage.
Working with Ben Stiller has proven to be a good luck charm for Patricia Arquette after winning an Emmy for “Escape at Dannemora” and getting nominated for her role in Apple TV+’s technological drama series. Her episode submission “What’s for Dinner?” is a strong one, that has her striking fear into the viewer, and chewing up the scenery.
A two-time Emmy winner for playing Ruth Langmore in Netflix’s crime-thriller series, Julia Garner is double nominated this year along with “Inventing Anna” in lead actress limited. She could make it a hat-trick for the final season that received glowing reviews and had an impressive Emmy showing.

AWARDS CATEGORY HISTORY (Supporting Actress Drama)
The Primetime Emmy Awards, better known simply as the Emmys, is television’s most prestigious artistic award. There are many records held for both wins and nominations in the near eight decades.
For wins: Nancy Marchand has the most wins in this category with four, all for her work as Margaret Pynchon in “Lou Grant,” three of which were consecutive. Ellen Corby is second in line with three.
For an entire series, “Lou Grant” has the most wins with four while “St. Elsewhere,” “The Waltons” and “The West Wing” with three apiece.
For nominations: Tyne Daly has the most nominations with eight, with Nancy Marchand and Betty Thomas close behind with seven.
“Hill Street Blues” is the series that has received the most nominations in this category over its run, with 13 nominations, with “Game of Thrones” close behind with 12.

About the Primetime Emmy Awards (Emmys)
The Primetime Emmy Awards, better known as the Emmys, are given out by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS). Since 1949, the awards have recognized excellence in American primetime television programming. They are divided into three classes – Primetime Emmy Awards, the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards (honors artisan achievements), and the Primetime Engineering Emmy Awards (recognizes significant engineering and technological contributions). The typical eligibility period is between June 1 and May 31 of any given year. The Television Academy comprises over 25,000 members, representing 30 professional peer groups, including performers, directors, producers, art directors and various artisans and executives.
