2023 Emmy Predictions:
Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series

Sam Claflin (Billy Dunne), Riley Keough (Daisy Jones)

Weekly Commentary: FX’s “Fleishman is in Trouble” has passionate admirers and is adapted from a very popular novel. It could be the quiet storm brewing on the backend, with the potential to become a bonafide front-runner.

Netflix’s “Beef” will be submitted as a limited or anthology series (you can read the Variety exclusive here). Starring Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, the series dropped on the streaming platform on April 6, garnering positive reviews from critics and audiences. Currently, the show sits at 99% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and 92% from audiences. However, the David Choe controversy could be a hindrance on the campaign trail.

For the Emmys to nominate six limited series, there must be 80 submissions for the category. As it stands, we are tracking 30-40. There are always surprise shows that are submitted by networks in order to beef up the numbers, but it looks unlikely we’ll get close to the required number, leaving five series vying for attention. That can yield some shocking inclusions and exclusions.

Emmy Nominations voting runs from June 15-26. The Primetime Emmy nominations will be announced on July 12. Check back every Thursday for the latest updates. All information is preliminary and is subject to change.
