Having trouble predicting who will win Best Movie/Limited Actor at the 2024 Emmy Awards? Let’s consult Gold Derby’s Emmy Experts! These savvy pundits from major media outlets have chimed in with their first set of predictions, and they say the trophy will go to either Jon Hamm (“Fargo”) or Tom Hollander (“Feud: Capote vs. the Swans”). The other potential nominees at this early stage are David Oyelowo (“Lawmen: Bass Reeves”), Hiroyuki Sanada (“Shogun”), Matt Bomer (“Fellow Travelers”) and Andrew Scott (“Ripley”) — but that could all change in the coming months.

As of this writing, two our of six Emmy Experts predict a victory for Hamm: Peter Travers (ABC) and Ray Richmond (Gold Derby). He plays corrupt Sheriff Roy Tillman on Season 5 of FX’s quirky anthology series. Hamm has received 16 total Emmy nominations throughout his career for his work on “Mad Men,” “30 Rock” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” triumphing on his final Best Drama Actor bid for “Mad Men” in 2015.

Two other Emmyologists — Joyce Eng (Gold Derby) and Thelma Adams (Gold Derby) — instead believe Hollander will prevail. He takes on the role of American novelist Truman Capote on the second installment of FX’s anthology program. Hollander previously won a BAFTA TV Award for “The Night Manager” (2017), and he claimed two ensemble trophies at the SAG Awards for “Gosford Park” (2001) and “The White Lotus” (2022).

The two remaining pundits are split, with Shawn Edwards (WDAF-TV Fox) going for Oyelowo as federal peace officer Bass Reeves, and Christopher Rosen (Gold Derby) picking Sanada as Lord Yoshii Toranaga. This would mark the third career Emmy nom Oyelowo after he produced and starred in “Nightingale” (2015), and the first for Sanada.

Some of the most recent Emmy winners in the Best Movie/Limited Actor category include Steven Yeun (“Beef”), Michael Keaton (“Dopesick”), Ewan McGregor (“Halston”), Mark Ruffalo (“I Know This Much Is True”) and Jharrel Jerome (“When They See Us”). Find out who will be in the running to join this esteemed list when the Primetime Emmy nominations are announced on July 17, 2024.
