Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale will continue to ramp up the dark storyline for Paul Ashdale and Vinny Dingle, as Reece Dinsdale reveals that his violent character is capable of some "scary stuff".

In scenes set to air next week, Paul will fear that he's killed son Vinny after lashing out and beating him. Paul will then turn violent again after Vinny discovers his dad has been lying about being kidnapped, but is this just the beginning of Paul's abuse?

Speaking to Digital Spy and other media in a recent Zoom call, Dinsdale and Bradley Johnson – who play Paul and Vinny, respectively – revealed that Paul is a "monster" who "has to have control".

Suggesting that things could get worse for Vinny, and even for his mum Mandy, Reece said that Mandy would "without a doubt" be in danger if she knew what had been happening.

"Without a doubt from Mandy's point of view and Paul knows this!" the actor explained. "It's a very important point in the proceedings, but it's the point where Paul doesn't deny it any longer to Vinny, he needs to have total control now over Vinny."

Explaining Paul's change in character, Reece continued: "He's not mollycoddling Vinny anymore or showing him a sweet side – he doesn't have to now, because he knows that Vinny knows everything.

"So now it's about 'Don't you dare ruin my life, don't you dare spoil my future with Mandy, I've got you where I want you and you know what happens if you even speak a single word to Mandy about anything'."

While reflecting on Emmerdale's dark turn for Paul, Reece also admitted that he finds his character's arc "quite scary".

"Poor Vinny is now a shadow of his former self and he is totally living in fear," he added. "This is where the monster has to have that control. It's quite scary stuff, isn't it really?"

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
