Emma Watson is known for her outspoken views on feminism and is not shy about her progressive views. She caused quite the uproar in an interview with British Vogue in November with her comments on being single. Now it appears she is trying to clarify what she said.

The Harry Potter actress has been compared to Gwyneth Paltrow after her divorce from Coldplay front man Christ Martin, in which she claimed they would be "consciously uncoupling."

Emma has been in a string of relationships in the last couple of years, though none of them have worked out.

In her interview with British Vogue, which came out this month, the actress and activist spoke about turning 30, happiness, and made comments about being single that caused quite an uproar.

She said to the magazine, “I was like, ‘Why does everyone make such a big fuss about turning 30? This is not a big deal…’ Cut to 29, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I feel so stressed and anxious. And I realise it’s because there is suddenly this bloody influx of subliminal messaging around. If you have not built a home, if you do not have a husband, if you do not have a baby, and you are turning 30, and you’re not in some incredibly secure, stable place in your career, or you’re still figuring things out… There’s just this incredible amount of anxiety.”

Emma Was Surprised By The Reaction To Her Comments

Her most talked about comments, however, were the ones in which she talks about being single. She told the publication, "I never believed the whole ‘I’m happy single’ spiel. I was like, ‘This is totally spiel.’ It took me a long time, but I’m very happy (being single). I call it being self-partnered.”

She was utterly surprised by the reaction people had, and recently spoke about this to E!'s The Rundown, saying, "I'm so happy people feel empowered. I literally said it as a throwaway comment thinking it would go no further. And then I woke up the next morning and my phone's blowing up and I don't know why and it's all my friends messaging me being like, 'self-partnered?' This thing's gone crazy."

She Clarified Her Stance

She claimed it was not simply about being single, but in having a good relationship with yourself, saying, 'It's much more about your relationship with yourself and the feeling of not somehow being deficient in some way because you're not with someone."

Emma spoke to E! while at the premiere for her recent movie Little Women in which she plays Meg March. She walked the red carpet in an all black ensemble made entirely by Balenciaga. While the actress is outspoken about being happily single, she has had quite a few relationships in the past.

Though she doesn't talk about them much, and tries to keep them private, she is not shy in public. One of her first serious relationships was in 2006 with rugby player Tom Ducker. She also seriously dated Will Adamowicz while she was at Oxford University in 2011. Her most recent relationship was with Glee actor Chord Overstreet whom she dated for 6 months in 2018.

Despite her comments about being "self-partnered," many have speculated that she is dating her Harry Potter co-star Tom Felton, though they have always claimed to be just friends.

Will Emma remain "self-partnered" for a while, or will she consciously couple with a new man soon? We'll have to wait and see!
