Emma Watson says she's 'very happy' being single, but she calls it 'self-partnered'

Emma Watson is putting a new spin on the term "single."

In a December cover interview with British Vogue, the actress, 29, talked about the anxieties of turning 30.

“I never believed the whole ‘I’m happy single’ spiel,” she said. “I was like, ‘This is totally spiel.’ It took me a long time, but I’m very happy (being single). I call it being self-partnered.”

She also said she never understood the "fuss" around turning 30 until her birthday neared. Watson turns 30 on April 15.

“I was like, ‘Why does everyone make such a big fuss about turning 30? This is not a big deal…’” she said. “Cut to 29, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I feel so stressed and anxious.' "

Watson credits the pressure to an "influx of subliminal messaging."

"If you have not built a home, if you do not have a husband, if you do not have a baby, and you are turning 30, and you’re not in some incredibly secure, stable place in your career, or you’re still figuring things out," she explained. "There’s just this incredible amount of anxiety."

Luckily, Watson has inspiring women in her life, such as her "Little Women" co-stars.

"What was really nice about working with Laura Dern and Meryl Streep was that the three of us knew each other way before we did 'Little Women,' " she said. "We met in activist spaces, so we had this allyship and solidarity as activists that had been part of a certain movement before we ever worked together."

Watson is best known for her role as Hermione in the "Harry Potter" franchise. She also starred in 2017's live action "Beauty and the Beast" and the 2012 film "The Perks of Being a Wallflower."
