After months of anticipation, the world finally got to watch the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast. And while we were captivated by Emma Watson’s musical talent and swooned over the Beast’s human form (hello, Dan Stevens), the real winner of premiere night was Belle’s iconic golden gown. It’s easy to see why: The dress apparently took about 12,000 hours to create—that’s 500 days! With 18 weeks of prep before shooting, costume designer Jacqueline Durran used 3,000 feet of thread and 180 feet of satin organza to create the gown, then added 2,160 Swarovski crystals to the final product. The designer also worked on Atonement and Anna Karenina (for which she won an Oscar), so it’s no surprise her meticulous designs greatly enhance the Disney adaptation. That’s one way to break records!
