Can she win again?

Emma Stone received an Academy Award nomination for her work in the riotous "Poor Things" Tuesday. Stone, from Scottsdale, was nominated for best actress — hardly a surprise, as her performance has been widely praised and garnering nominations and awards in other contests. The film received 11 nominations, including best picture.

The other nominees for best actress are Lily Gladstone for "Killers of the Flower Moon," Annette Bening for "Nyad," Sandra Hüller for "Anatomy of a Fall" and Carey Mulligan for "Maestro." Left out in a huge surprise? Margot Robbie for "Barbie." But the category is widely considered a two-person race between Gladstone and Stone. Their performances have been universally praised, and with good reason.

Both Stone and Gladstone won Golden Globes in early January. The Oscars should be a close race between two deserving performances.

How many Oscars has Emma Stone won?

It's Stone's fourth Oscar nomination; she won best actress in 2017 for her performance in "La La Land." In her acceptance speech then, she thanked Bobb Cooper, the longtime artistic director at Valley Youth Theatre in Phoenix, where Stone got her start.
