Emma Stone Is Engaged! 'SNL' Writer Dave McCary Put a (Stunning Antique Engagement) Ring On It

Congrats are in order, because Emma Stone is an engaged woman! After two years of quietly dating Saturday Night Live segment director and writer Dave McCary, he popped the question — and she obviously said yes, judging by the stunning ring they subsequently flashed on social media to announce the happy news. A rep for Stone has since confirmed to USA Today that the actress and writer are, in fact, affianced.
McCary took to Instagram on Wednesday night to share a snapshot of the newly engaged pair. Both sport huge smiles in the photo, and Stone’s hand is outreached toward the camera to reveal her new sparkler. The photo is blurry which, TBH, we kind of love since it hints at the sort of frenzied excitement they must have been feeling at that moment. Even so, you can see that Stone’s engagement ring looks to be vintage (or vintage-style).

Per People, the couple first went public with their relationship in October 2017 but had been together for at least three months by that point. They met when Stone hosted SNL at the end of 2016, starring in the sketch “Wells for Boys.” Can you guess who directed that segment? You got it — McCary.

Last year, Stone admitted during an interview with Elle that her attitude toward marriage and family has evolved over time. “My perspective about having kids has changed as I’ve gotten older. As a teenager, I was like, I’m never getting married, I’m never having kids. And then I got older and I was like, I really want to get married, I really want to have kids,” she explained.
And on slowly down her work schedule during that time, Stone revealed, “I think it’s been a good time to get a little perspective, because things were so heavy work wise for the past few years. And honestly, so many of my dreams are now personal and less professional.”
We’d say she can check at least one of those personal dreams off the list now. Up next: the wedding!
