Eminem's 'Music to Be Murdered By" Leaves Critics and Fans Mixed
Eminem surprised the music world last Friday with the release of his eleventh studio album "Music to Be Murdered By." With a tracklist of 20 songs (and interludes) and a run time of an hour and forty minutes, Em's newest album created a buzz between critics.
Was it good? Was it bad? That was the debate between music fans and critics alike. Lyrics, production, and the rapper's previous albums were all considered and the consensus is, still up for debate.

"Eminem belittles the trauma of a then 26-year-old Ariana Grande for kicks on 'Unaccommodating' by comparing himself to the Manchester Arena bomber," states one review by the Independent. " The sour taste of this track lingers well beyond the album’s centerpiece, 'Darkness”, which is intended as a searing critique of America’s toxic gun culture. Instead, his use of gunfire and explosion samples feels grossly exploitative; its message is meaningless when you consider Eminem's extensive catalog of hyper-violent material from the past two decades."
The Telegraph had a different read on the album though. Their review states, "Eminem’s 11th album offers over an hour of the world’s greatest rapper blasting away on all cylinders. It is the first great album of 2020, so lethally brilliant it should be a crime."
The Rolling Stones says, "He does seem to have thrown a little more intellectual, thematic, and emotional elbow grease into this record," but also states that the album is riddled with self-owns and lyrical mishaps.
Fans of Eminem were quick to jump on the "Rap God" bandwagon, praising his lyricism and technical skill. "Eminem holding the shovel he buried the entire music industry few days ago," stated one fan account of the rapper.
Other people were not so impressed. "Eminem rap the same on every song like slow down slim shady 😂😂😂🤒🤒," said another account.
The album even inspired Nick Cannon to drop a diss track (that met a lot of criticism itself when it was released).
Two user reviews on Metacritic are perfect examples of the divide. One states, "It's Eminem's best album since Recovery. Good music production & some banger tracks make this album great." But, another says, "This is an bad[sic] album. So many ways the lyricism fails and Em switches back to the fast rapping approach to confound and impress listeners."
It is safe to say that the new Eminem album has caused a lot of fighting amongst music fans. With criticized lyrics, fights with other rappers, and fans going crazy over the album, "Music to be Murdered By" is a notable album.
