Eminem's graphic 'Darkness' music video calls for gun control

Eminem is not afraid to take a stand for gun control – even if his methods stir controversy.

Last night, the rapper surprised fans with his new album, “Music to Be Murdered by,” but it wasn’t the only surprise he dropped on them. With the new record also came a music video for his track “Darkness,” which for lack of a better word, was pretty … dark.

The “‘Till I Collapse” rapper adopts the persona of the 2017 Las Vegas shooting gunman, clad in a hood, under the influence and “armed to the teeth.” He narrates the moments leading up to the massacre with spoken word: “round after round, I’m getting loaded. That’s a lot of shots, huh?”

A scene follows with an older man resembling the original gunman Stephen Paddock, firing shots from his Las Vegas hotel. Complete with blood and very realistic-looking gunshots, the video serves as a graphic recreation of the deadliest shooting in modern U.S. history.

Eminem also references other mass shootings with a montage of media soundbites, followed by a call to action to vote: “When will this end? When people care. Register to vote at vote.org.” He even drops a line in another new album track, “Unaccommodating,” referencing the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing: “I’m contemplating yelling ‘bombs away’ on the game/like I’m outside of an Ariana Grande concert waiting.”

Ariana Grande reps did not immediately respond to EW for comment.
