Emily in Paris” Season 5? Not so fast.

During the amfAR Gala at the Cannes Film Festival, which raises money for research to end HIV and AIDS, Winnie Harlow and Paris Jackson appeared onstage to auction off a walk-on role in a previously unannounced fifth season of the Netflix series. The winner of the auction shelled out €250,000 to appear in the series as well as the chance to attend the Season 4 premiere in Los Angeles. Harlow and Jackson also said that Season 5 of the popular series is scheduled to begin shooting in mid 2025.

However, an individual with knowledge of the situation says that Netflix has not in fact greenlit another season of “Emily in Paris.” According to the official amfAR auction website, the walk-on role came “Courtesy of Darren Star,” the creator of the series. The website was recently updated to state that the winning bid “will have the opportunity to spend a day on set in Paris during filming, contingent upon season 5 pickup.” The original language, which was also featured in the official auction booklet and can be seen below, did not mention the “contingent” aspect, but rather indicated a fifth season was already in the works.

Reps for Star did not immediately respond to Variety‘s request for comment.

The odd situation comes ahead of the Season 4 premiere of “Emily in Paris.” The fourth season will premiere in two parts, due in part to the production shutdown that occurred during the dual writers’ and actors’ strikes in 2023. The first part of the new season will debut on August 15, while the second part will follow on Sept. 12.

The official description for Season 4 states that it begins with “Emily (Lily Collins) reeling after the dramatic events of Camille (Camille Razat) and Gabriel’s (Lucas Bravo) misbegotten wedding. She has strong feelings for two men, but now Gabriel’s expecting a baby with his ex, and Alfie’s (Lucien Laviscount) worst fears about her and Gabriel have been confirmed.”

The cast of the series also includes Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Ashley Park, Samuel Arnold, Bruno Gouery and William Abadie.

“Emily in Paris” was created by Star, who executive produces alongside Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, Andrew Fleming, Alison Brown and Robin Schiff. Co-executive producers include Stephen Brown, Grant Sloss and Joe Murphy, while Collins, Ryan McCormick, Raphaël Benoliel and Jake Fuller serve as producers. MTV Entertainment Studios, Darren Star Productions, and Jax Media produce the series.
