Emily in Paris season 4 s'approche à grands pas — or, is fastly approaching, if you haven't brushed up on your French. Your favorite stylish expat, Emily Cooper, played by Lily Collins, will return to Netflix for the fourth chapter of her adventure sooner than you think.

Emily in Paris is surprisingly one of the most divisive comedies of the past few years. The series follows the titular Emily, a marketing executive from Chicago, as she unexpectedly becomes a Paris transplant when she's hired to offer an American perspective for the fictional French firm Savoir. The show has been celebrated for its warmth, charm, and incredible fashion moments, and also criticized for its rose-colored, and sometimes stereotypical, portrayal of France and Parisians.

Despite the mixed reviews, according to Deadline, the show was Netflix's most popular comedy series of 2020, and its third season was watched for 117.6 million hours within its first week on the streaming platform.

Whether you hate to love Emily or love to hate her, there's no denying that the upcoming fourth season of the show will be its juiciest yet — I mean, there are so many questions that need answers following that cliffhanger ending. What will Emily in Paris season 4 be about?

Warning: major spoilers ahead for Emily in Paris Season 3.

After a huge, explosive season 3 finale with cliffhanger after cliffhanger and that major pregnancy twist, so many of our characters will be heading into season 4 with uncertainty. After Camille and Gabriel's impromptu wedding at their engagement party in the French countryside, sh*t hit the fan — and quickly. Camille broke off the engagement, saying that Gabriel and Emily are in love and revealing her feelings for Sofia. Alfie broke up with Emily and stormed out. Camille told Gabriel about her pact with Emily. Gabriel revealed that Camille returned to France not to rekindle their relationship but to drop a bombshell: she's pregnant.

"I heard all the endings and thought they were alts," series star Lily Collins told Entertainment Tonight about the finale. "Then I realized they were all the endings at once. I was like, 'Wait, there’s a wedding, and then there’s a wedding that doesn’t happen, or this engagement that turns into a wedding that turns into non-wedding, which turns into a pregnancy announcement, which turns into, like, what the f*ck? What!'"

Emily in Paris creator and co-executive producer Darren Star teased to ET just how much this twist will complicate things moving into season 4. “It's very clear in season 3 that it's a big dream of [Gabriel's]. He wants to be a father and I think he was excited and is excited about the idea of fatherhood, but you know, our show doesn't move that quickly," said Star. "One season really covers a couple of months… We've had three seasons and maybe six months of actual time [have passed], so I'm not sure we're going to actually see a baby in season 4. But I think that we're going to have to deal with the prospect of the baby.”

When was Emily in Paris season 4 announced?

In January 2022, only a month after Netflix released season 2, Emily in Paris was renewed for season 3 and 4. “Say ‘bonjour’ to 3 & 4! EMILY IS OFFICIALLY RETURNING FOR TWO MORE SEASONS!” read the announcement post from the official Emily in Paris IG account, complete with a (French) kiss emoji.

Emily stars announced the show's return for two more seasons in a series of celebratory social media posts, including this one from Lily Collins, a.k.a. Emily, herself. “I can't tell if Emily would love or hate this announcement outfit, but she'd be screaming either way,” wrote Collins. Well, we love the 'fit.

Unfortunately, there is no official release date for Emily in Paris season 4 yet. However, Netflix has shared an update on the show's filming schedule, and season 4 is set to be filmed in both Italy and Paris, starting January 15, 2024.

As reported by Variety, the end of the actors and writers strikes has studios in overdrive, including Netflix, as the series' location puts the streamer on a strict timeline — from June to September, all shoots and productions will be prohibited in Paris as the French capital city is set to host the 2024 Olympic Games.

Emily in Paris has filmed its last three seasons over the last few summers at the Cité du Cinema studios, but the studios are already booked for the Olympics, so Emily will film instead at a different nearby studio while still filming their exterior shots on location in Paris. “When it comes to securing locations in Paris, it’s first come, first served, so it’s a bit of a rat race right now. Most places are already saturated,” a key line producer who works on big U.S. shoots in Paris told Variety in September.

Has Emily in Paris season 4 begun production yet?

Yes! Netflix confirmed production for Emily in Paris season 4 had officially begun on January 19, 2024, sharing a picture of Lily Collins holding up a script from the cast's table read for the first episode, labeled as 401 on the document. “BONJOUR SEASON FOUR 💗 Emily in Paris is back in production,” the streamer wrote alongside the picture.

Not only has production begun for the series, but the has already been spotted filming the first few scenes for season 4 on location. On February 15, Lily Collins was seen shooting for the show's fourth season on the streets of Paris, and she was accompanied by another familiar face: Camille Razat. (You can see the pictures here.) We don't know exactly what's going on, but judging by their attires, it looks like the ever-so-fashionable Camille bumped into Emily's mid-city jog. However, they seem to be in a surprisingly good mood given the circumstances?

In case you need us to jog your memory, Razat plays Camille on the show, and the last time we saw them together, she and Emily were not on the best of terms. (You know, after Camille left Gabriel at the altar and then exposed his true feelings for Emily.)

Who else will be in Emily in Paris season 4?

No confirmed cast roster has been released for the next season; it's safe to assume then that most of the season 3 cast will be returning for season 4 since, per Variety, part of Emily in Paris season 4 was filmed back-to-back with season 3 in France. Judging by the new on-location pics, we can 100% say Camille Razat is back. The rest of the cast includes Ashley Park (who plays Mindy), Lucas Bravo (Gabriel), Lucien Laviscount (Alfie), Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie), Samuel Arnold (Julian), and Bruno Gouery (Luc).

With Madeline's decision to shut down the branch and return to Chicago, this might be the last we see of actor Kate Walsh — but never say never, right? And, of course, Lily Collins will definitely be back to reprise the titular role, as she's also a producer on the series.

Of course, this is Emily in Paris, so there's always going to be a wild card. This season's? Well, Brigitte Macron (a.k.a. the First Lady of France) is expected to have a cameo on the show. On April 2, 2024, Lily Collins was reportedly spotted filming on location for the season alongside Macron. In an interview with Stephen Colbert from 2022, Collins actually revealed Brigitte Macron was a “really big fan” of Emily in Paris, so I guess it kinda makes sense. It's still wild to think the wife of an A-list politician is involved in a Netflix show.

What's going to happen between Alfie and Emily? And Emily and Gabriel?

Camille left Gabriel at the altar, and Alfie left Emily with a confused heart. The two seemingly split for good after Camille exposed Emily and Gabriel's true feelings for each other, with Alfie telling Emily he's “no one's second choice.” While it's unclear whether Alfie and Emily will reconcile in season 4, Lily Collins thinks this might be it for the fan-favorite couple — especially since Emily's romance with Gabriel is also at a crossroads.

“Emily has had to fight to win Alfie back once, so I don’t know if that’s going to happen again,” Lily told Entertainment Tonight following the finale. “I don't know how Alfie feels about that. I don't know where Gabriel sits because we've expressed feelings, but there’s a baby on the way.”

"These are characters who really do have feelings for more than one [person], and they're all real and genuine feelings, and it’s difficult," creator Darren Star added to ET. However, the showrunner told Deadline that Alfie's romantic future with Emily is most likely on hold for now.

“I don’t think romantically he is in the picture,” Star said to Deadline. “I don’t think that makes Alfie out of the show. He certainly has a reason to be in Paris, and he’s working with Gabriel. I feel like all of our characters are still connected, just in a more complicated way.”

As for Alfie actor Lucien Laviscount, he's down for whichever way the storyline goes — he's not Team Alfie or Team Gabriel, but Team Emily. “I just want her to be happy. She deserves to be happy,” Lucien said to ET. We love you, Alfie!

Is Emily in Paris season 4 the final season of the show?

While speaking to Deadline, series creator Darren Star said he's unsure which season will be the last season for Emily in Paris. But as of right now? We're just getting started.

“I definitely think the show has a life beyond next season. It’s not necessarily conceived as a final chapter,” said Star. “I think, like every other show, it’s a rich ensemble. There’s no end in sight until everybody feels like it’s time to end. And I don’t think this show is limited by a number of seasons, I think it’s limited by everybody’s enthusiasm and excitement about doing it and telling stories about these characters because I think the world, especially after season 3, the universe of the show is expanded because we have such a fantastic ensemble of characters and the show, it’s Emily In Paris, but I think it’s moved beyond just Emily in Paris, which is exciting.”

The show also has plans to literally move Emily beyond Paris. During Netflix's global Tudum event in June 2023, Lily Collins hinted at a future Italian getaway for the show's characters in a video addressed to fans. "While Emily's heart will always remain true to Paris, her life takes some unexpected twists this season," Collins teased. “Don't be surprised to find her on a Roman holiday.” There's also a possibility that season 4 will take the gang to Eurovision, as Benoit told Mindy their song “Mon Soleil” will be heading to the Eurovision Song Contest. We're so excited.
