Emily Blunt Reveals 'Friends' to Blame for Change to Lisa Kudrow's 'Girl on the Train' Character

Emily Blunt visited The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote her new film, The Girl on the Train. She revealed that Lisa Kudrow’s character, Monica, caused quite a stir on set.

Blunt plays the lead character, Rachel, and she said there was an issue with a particular scene: “We had about 300 extras, and then we had actual commuters coming into Grand Central who heard on the loud speaker, ‘OK, guys, we’re going to roll on Rachel,’ and then they see Lisa Kudrow walking on, and then they hear, ‘Guys, we’re going to do a close-up of Monica,’ and I saw two people have an aneurysm,” joked Blunt.

She said everyone was so excited about the possibility of a Friends reunion that the producers got nervous and decided to change the name of Kudrow’s character to avoid causing laughter during the screenings. The character’s name is now Martha.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m./10:35 p.m. CT on NBC.
