The Real Reason That Emily Blunt And John Krasinski’s Kids Don’t Find Her Fame “Exciting” Actually Makes A Lot Of Sense

Emily Blunt is opening up about her kids’ attitudes towards her fame.

Emily, 40, shares two daughters — 9-year-old Hazel and 7-year-old Violet — with her husband, John Krasinski.

Now, if you’re someone who keeps up with John and Emily’s adorable family, you might be aware that their little ones aren't quite aware of their parents’ global fame.

Last year, John revealed during an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert that his kids had slightly misunderstood what he does for a living thanks to the name of his hit sitcom, The Office.

Of course, John played Jim Halpert in the beloved NBC series from 2005 to 2013. Naturally, this means that he’s often approached by fans in public who tell him they know him “from The Office” — something that inevitably confuses his young daughters.

“I was walking them to school one day and this guy came up and he went, ‘John! From The Office!’” he recalled. “He went, ‘Oh my god, it’s so good to see you!’ And I said, ‘Thanks.’ And we kept walking.”

And when John later told his curious daughter that he didn’t know who the fan was, she said, “Why are you lying to me? ... He just said he knows you from the office?”

So, it’s no secret that little Hazel and Violet aren’t entirely aware of their parents’ status as world-renowned actors — something that Emily shed a little more light on this week during a new interview with Harper’s Bazaar.

Firstly discussing her own attitude towards her fame, Emily revealed that she actually has a “complete dissociation” from it.

“When I see myself up on a billboard, I have this complete dissociation with it... I’m like, 'Who’s that?'” she said.

And Emily went on to explain that her kids have the exact same attitude, noting that her worldwide fame simply isn’t “exciting” for them.

“I can see my children doing the same — they might say, ‘oh, there’s Mama,’ but it’s not exciting for them,” she said.

“What’s exciting for them is when I can pick them up from school and take them swimming,” she added.

Elaborating further, Emily noted that she feels it’s incredibly important to cherish these meaningful moments.

“There are cornerstones of the girls’ day that I don’t want to compromise on – like, ‘Will you wake me up, take me to school, pick me up and put me to bed?’ And I just want to be able to say, ‘Yes, yes, yes.’ It’s such an exhale for me to be able to do that,” she said, with the interviewer noting that she’s decided to take “the rest of the year off” of acting in order to spend more time with her family.

“Even though they’re hardy, and they’re used to this strange life, it’s still rough on them when I have to go away,” she said of her kids.

Later on in the interview, Emily discussed the downsides of the “disappointing” entertainment industry as she hinted that she’s repeatedly been “judged” on her appearance.

“My toes curl when people tell me, ‘My daughter wants to be an actress.’ I want to say, ‘Don’t do it!’” she said.

“Because it’s a hard industry and it can be very disappointing. A lot of people tell you not to take things personally – but it’s completely personal, especially when you’re being judged on how you look. So you just have to endure that side of things,” she said.
