Emily Blunt’s Favorite Candy Is a Movie Theater Specialty

And she's not alone in loving them.

Everyone knows that no good trip to the movies is complete without a stop at the concession stand. I'm talking about entering that theater stocked with popcorn, candy, Icees, and soda concoctions from the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine. There's something about eating a handful of buttery popcorn followed by that sweet, slightly carbonated frozen drink that just makes your movie-viewing experience that much better.

And, let's be honest, if anyone knows about movie theater showings, it's the actors and actresses who are in them. Sure, many of those celebs probably aren't eating M&M's by the handful while watching themselves on the big screen—but the relatable ones are.

So, of course, Emily Blunt, the lovely potato- and pasta-making actress who happens to be Stanley Tucci's sister-in-law, has a go-to movie theater treat. Can you be more relatable than Mary Poppins? Julie Andrews would say no.

On a recent episode of "The Kelly Clarkson Show," Kelly Clarkson—another of our favorite down-to-earth celebs—chatted with Blunt about her new movie, "Fall Guy," with Ryan Gosling.

"What's your favorite theater snack?" Clarkson asks.

"You might not have heard of them, but they're called Maltesers," Blunt says.

"That's a dog," Clarkson responds, talking about the breed Maltese.

"It's not a dog, it's basically the better version of a Whopper," Blunt says.

Maltesers are essentially the U.K. version of popular Whoppers Malted Milk Balls. They're described as "honeycomb spheres covered in a creamy layer of milk chocolate" on Maltesers' site, but they are essentially chocolate malt balls, hence the name Malt-esers.

They're not the same as a Whopper—specifically because Hershey's makes Whoppers in the U.S., but Mars produces Maltesers in the U.K. So, it's similar to how KitKats in other countries have different flavors because Nestlé makes them, while they're a Hershey's product in the U.S.

"Try one; you're going to be converted to the church of 'Teasers,'" Blunt tells Clarkson as she pops a malt ball into her mouth and fist pumps.

"I'm going to be honest with you, I'm not a Whopper fan either, I'm a Milk Duds girl," Clarkson said.

"Come on. Go with it. They're lighter than air," Blunt says.

While Clarkson wasn't the biggest fan, Maltesers have gotten the stamp of approval from other American celebs.

During an Australian candy taste test on the Kelce brothers' "New Heights" podcast with recently retired Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce and his teammate Jordan Mailata, Kelce raved about the Maltesers.

"A thousand percent better than Whoppers," Kelce says.

Unfortunately, Maltesers are traditionally only available in the U.K. However, if you're lucky, you might find them in specialty international stores or even the international aisle of a grocery store. A quick search on Instacart shows that Wegmans sells them near me.

Even though the Brits and Aussies (and Jason Kelce) claim Maltesers are better than Whoppers, if you can't find the U.K. chocolate malt balls, the U.S. ones will always do. And, you've got to admit, they make the perfect movie theater snack.
