The Environmental Media Association is honoring several stars at its annual awards in Los Angeles on Saturday night

On Saturday night at the Sunset Las Palmas Studios in Los Angeles, stars stepped out at the annual Environmental Media Association Awards, celebrating people in entertainment and activism who are using their voices to help the planet.

Co-hosted by Lance Bass and Cheri Oteri, this year's awards honored actress Laura Dern; she was presented with the EMA Ongoing Commitment Award for her continued dedication to the cause. Additionally, Sheryl Crow performed and stars like Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed presented, with Jane Fonda and Michelle Pfeiffer among the big names on hand to celebrate.

Of the importance of the awards, Nikki Reed told PEOPLE, "I feel like there are very few opportunities where we can bring together this intersection of entertainment and environmentalism and really highlight the work that people are doing, the work that they're actually doing."

Host Lance Bass spoke to PEOPLE about how his children make him care about the future of our planet even more.

"I know that we have to take care of this planet or there won't be a place for my kids to live," he said. "Now that I have 2-year-olds, it really means even more to me to know that my kids and my grandkids will have a great place to live and not fear their lives, because of pollution or the planet warming."

"My wife and I sit on the board with the Environmental Media Association and so we're always here to support," Drew Scott told PEOPLE of his involvement with wife Linda Phan. "And I love how so many amazing people, a lot of big celebrities, come together here to use their voices for good. And I think for me, the thing is what we're trying to push is not an agenda as much as it is just something positive for families in the future. Safer, happier, healthier, home and planet."
