Game of Thrones star Isaac Hempstead Wright reveals the secret behind Bran's iconic stare

Game of Thronesfinal season premiere had plenty of buzz-worthy moments to talk about–from Jon Snow discovering his true parentage to his reunion with Arya to a distinct lack of elephants. The episode’s final moment, though, packed the hardest punch: Jaime Lannister arrived at Winterfell to find Bran Stark in the courtyard, fixing him with a piercing stare.

On Wednesday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live, Bran actor Isaac Hempstead Wright revealed how he achieved this gaze. It turns out it’s much simpler than you might think: he can’t see anything.

“I’ve gotten good at this sort of intense stare,” Wright said. “But it’s actually aided by the fact that I’m completely blind when I’m on set. I don’t have my glasses, and I don’t have contact lenses.”

“I was doing one scene in season 7 with Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa,” he added. “And she said, ‘Isaac, your stare is like you’re staring into my soul!’ And I said, ‘I can’t see you. That’s why.'”

Kimmel also playfully pressed Wright to reveal spoilers, raising the long-held fan theory that Bran is in fact the Night King. “I think he’s the Three-Eyed Raven, who is definitely on the side of the living,” Wright said. He was quick to complicate this, however, quipping, “Who says the Night King’s dead?”

It’s not a completely baseless theory, though–the Night King is also known for his stare, after all.
