Elvis director Baz Luhrmann penned a touching tribute to Lisa Marie Presley after her sudden death on Jan. 12 at age 54.

"Over the last year, the entire Elvis movie family and I have felt the privilege of Lisa Marie's kind embrace," he wrote Jan. 13 on Instagram, accompanied by a photo of Lisa Marie and Elvis actor Austin Butler. "Her sudden, shocking loss has devastated people all around the world. I know her fans everywhere join me in sharing prayers of love and support with her mother, Priscilla [Presley], and her wonderful daughters Riley [Keough], Finley and Harper."

He continued, "Lisa Marie, we will miss your warmth, your smile, your love."

Lisa Marie had been an outspoken supporter of Baz's 2022 biopic of her dad, writing on social media that fans could "feel and witness Baz's pure love, care, and respect for my father throughout this beautiful film."

"Baz, your utter genius combined with your love and respect for my father and this project is just so beautiful and so inspiring," she said on Instagram last May. "I know I'm being repetitive, but I don't care, Thank you for setting the record straight in such a deeply profound and artistic way."

Just four days before her passing, Lisa Marie—who was Elvis Presley's only child—had celebrated her late father's 88th birthday along with Baz, Riley and others. Elvis died in August 1977 when Lisa Marie was 9 years old.

On Jan. 12, Lisa Marie was hospitalized for a medical emergency, with Priscilla confirming hours later that her daughter had died. Her official cause of death has not been shared.

"It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us," Priscilla told People on Jan. 12. "She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment."

Lisa Marie is survived by her daughter Riley with ex-husband Danny Keough and her 14-year-old twins Harper and Finley with ex-husband Michael Lockwood.
