The case of Elsbeth‘s fate at CBS has been cracked: The Good Wife spinoff has officially been renewed for Season 2, TVLine has learned.

Season-to-date, Elsbeth is averaging 7.3 million total viewers and a 0.45 demo rating (with Live+7 playback), delivering 25% more viewers than CSI: Vegas did in the Thursday closer slot last season, while matching its demo number. Out of the 14 dramas that CBS has aired this TV season, Elsbeth ranks No. 10 in audience and bests only NCIS: Sydney in the demo.

Elsbeth has charmed audiences with its singular blend of delightful humor, distinctive ‘how-done-it’ storytelling, and the inventive, brilliant quirkiness of Elsbeth Tascioni,” CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach said in a statement on Thursday. “Executive producers Robert and Michelle King have a stellar track record for creating critically acclaimed series full of unforgettable characters and, alongside showrunner Jonathan Tolins and his writing team, have developed an incredibly entertaining and engrossing New York City-centric world for the show to explore. We are grateful to the uniquely talented cast, led by Carrie Preston, Wendell Pierce and Carra Patterson, for bringing these wonderful characters to life in the company of a world-class roster of weekly guest stars.”

The second Good Wife offshoot (following Paramount+’s The Good Fight), Elsbeth finds Preston reprising her role of Elsbeth Tascioni, an astute but unconventional attorney using her singular point of view to make unique observations and corner criminals alongside the NYPD. Pierce co-stars as NYPD Captain C.W. Wagner, while Patterson plays Kaya Blanke, a police officer who develops an appreciation for Elsbeth’s ways.

Elsbeth‘s renewal comes halfway through its current freshman season, which airs new episodes Thursdays at 10/9c. In tonight’s installment, Elsbeth and Kaya investigate the coach and father (played by Blair Underwood) of a dead tennis star.

TVLine’s 2024 Renewal Scorecard has been updated to reflect Elsbeth‘s good news. Still awaiting word on their fates are fellow CBS series CSI: Vegas, The Equalizer, NCIS: Hawai’i and So Help Me Todd, the last of which could be in peril at the network.
