Elsbeth: 10 Good Wife and Good Fight Characters Who Need to Visit Spinoff

We really hope Elsbeth likes catching up with old friends and colleagues.

Premiering Thursday, Feb. 29 at 10/9c on CBS, the Good Wife spinoff finds Carrie Preston reprising her standout role of Elsbeth Tascioni. In the offshoot, the unconventional attorney “utilizes her singular point of view to make unique observations and corner brilliant criminals alongside the NYPD,” per the official synopsis.

“After leaving her successful legal career in Chicago to tackle a new investigative role in New York City, Elsbeth finds herself jockeying with the toast of the NYPD, Captain C.W. Wagner (played by Wendell Pierce), a charismatic and revered leader,” the description continues. “Working alongside Elsbeth is Officer Kaya Blanke (Carra Patterson), a stoic and ethical officer who quickly develops an appreciation for Elsbeth’s insightful and offbeat ways.”

While Elsbeth has some fresh allies and antagonists in her new home, we can’t help hoping that she’ll also encounter familiar faces from The Good Wife and its spinoff, The Good Fight, which welcomed several vets from the mothership series during its run on Paramount+.

Of course, heavy hitters like Alicia Florrick, Diane Lockhart and Kalinda Sharma are on our list of characters we’d like to see on Elsbeth. But we’ve included some more realistic requests, as well, for people who haven’t been seen or heard of since The Good Wife wrapped up. (We need to know what Cary is up to!) Plus, we’ve got one suggestion that could also double as a crossover with Evil.

Review our wish list below, then hit the comments to tell us which Good Wife and Good Fight vets you want on Elsbeth!

Alicia Florrick

Let us dream, OK?

While behind-the-scenes issues might make an appearance from Julianna Margulies’ character unlikely, the idea more than makes sense, storyline-wise: Thanks to Eli Gold’s visit to The Good Fight during the show’s final season, we know that Alicia has relocated to New York City, where she has started her own law firm. (She also finally gave her once-again imprisoned hubby Peter the boot.)

Cary Agos

Is Cary still a practicing lawyer? Maybe he’s now a law professor at a New York university? Or has he stepped into a completely new role, having given up the law? We’d love to get the opportunity to catch up with Matt Czuchry’s alter ego, especially since, unlike with Alicia, we have no idea what he’s been doing post-Good Wife.

Diane Lockhart

In the Good Fight series finale, Diane accepted Liz’s offer to head an all-female law firm in D.C., which isn’t that far from New York. And when it comes to who we want to see on TV, the answer is always Christine Baranski, no matter the show.

Eli Gold

If Alan Cumming’s multi-episode arc during The Good Fight‘s final season taught us anything it’s that the actor can play it all, from wicked humor to devastating grief. So we’d never decline a visit from the sharp-witted D.C. political consultant. Plus, you just know that Eli and Elsbeth interacting would be comedy gold.

Lucca Quinn

Cush Jumbo was so good as Lucca that she transitioned from The Good Wife to The Good Fight upon its launch. But the actress, ultimately, exited the spinoff after four seasons, much to viewers’ loss. We’re sure Lucca is currently living a very fabulous, globe-trotting life as a CFO… that could briefly bring her to the Big Apple?

Kalinda Sharma

Elsbeth will be working alongside the NYPD, so there’s a very good chance that she may need the assistance of a highly-skilled private investigator. Or maybe one is already on the case, leading Elsbeth to cross paths with Archie Panjabi’s enigmatic and esteemed P.I., who, left we saw, had fled Chicago for her own safety. (New York City seems like a good place to get lost, doesn’t it?)

OR…

Robyn Burdine

Elsbeth could employ the skills of Lockhart & Gardner-turned-Florrick & Agos investigator Robyn, who was abruptly never seen again after recurring for three seasons on The Good Wife. Jess Weixler’s promising character deserved better, so consider this an opportunity for redemption.

Marissa Gold

Marissa was eager to join Diane at her new D.C. law firm, so if Christine Baranski’s character shows up on Elsbeth, it’s only natural that she bring along her smart and funny colleague.

Nancy Crozier

Like scatterbrained-but-sharp Elsbeth, Mamie Gummer’s lawyer is an example of when appearances can be deceiving. Nancy gives off the impression that she’s naïve and helpless, when she’s actually a shark. So watching the two deceptively sharp brains face off would be a delightful battle.

Lemond Bishop… or David Acosta?

Lemond Bishop… or David Acosta?

Sure, Mike Colter could reprise his Good Wife/Fight role as drug kingpin Lemond Bishop — perhaps he’s expanded his empire beyond Chicago? — but wouldn’t it be way more fun and cheeky if the actor instead appeared as his character from creators Robert and Michelle King’s other show, Evil? Since that drama is also set in New York City, it would make sense if Father David Acosta’s spiritual guidance was needed during a difficult case.
