In case you had any lingering fear that Disney couldn’t possibly replicate the success of Frozen, the latest trailer for Frozen II will allow you to... let it go. Due in theaters on Nov. 22, the highly anticipated sequel — which reunites the directing team of Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee — continues the story of singing sisters Elsa and Anna (Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell) as they embark on a new adventure: one that will transport them to new realms in order to better understand their own past. (Watch the trailer above and see the new poster for the film below.)
A previous teaser already hinted at one part of that journey: Elsa using her wintery powers to try to cross the raging seas that claimed her parents’ lives, only to have the ice give way beneath her, plunging her into the briny depths. This new trailer reveals what’s waiting for her beneath the waves, and it’s... a horse? Make that Nokk: a water spirit who takes on an equine shape in its mission to guard secrets hidden deep within the forest.
If Elsa is trying this hard to get elsewhere, something is clearly rotten in the state of Arendelle. And according to those all-knowing trolls, the secret to fixing the problem lies in Elsa’s past.
“You must find the truth,” intones the Troll King (Ciarán Hinds). “Go north, across the enchanted lands and into the unknown.”
Elsa and Anna waste little time taking his advice, boarding a Sven-drawn carriage that also carries their traveling companions Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and Olaf (Josh Gad). Awaiting up ahead are such perils as boat rides over underground waterfalls, magical beings that set things alight in bright purple flames and giant walls of mist that lead to parts unknown.
The Troll King also has special words of warning for Anna: “We have always feared Elsa’s powers were too much for this world,” he says, calling back the reason why he advised their mother and father to alter her memories in the first place. But with a looming cataclysm, he’s come around on her snow-making abilities in a big way. “Now we must hope they are enough.” You might say the cold doesn’t bother him anyway.
For the record, the Frozen faithful on Twitter aren’t bothered by the scarcity of plot details — not to mention the lack of any new music reveals — in the latest trailer.
Frozen II is a superhero movie and I’m 100% in. Make Elsa an Avenger you cowards! pic.twitter.com/8D4REzdel5— A Man Needs a Name (@tpkelle) June 11, 2019
I am COMPLETELY here for Frozen 2.— Nick Harkaway (@Harkaway) June 11, 2019
I do not know if this is a controversial opinion or not and frankly I do not care. It feels like a new Star Wars movie or something.
Can't believe it but Frozen II is literally gonna be 2 Frozen 2 Furious. https://t.co/p4TXs3BUr4— Ian Bogost (@ibogost) June 11, 2019
