Elon Musk's Son Damian, 17, Says He Became a Vegetarian at Age 8 to 'Decrease My Carbon Footprint'

Musk shares the now 17-year-old and his two triplet brothers Kai and Saxon, as well as three other children, with ex-wife Justine Wilson

Elon Musk's son Damian gave up meat to help save the planet.

In his new biography on the tech mogul, titled Elon Musk, Walter Isaacson discusses the tech entrepreneur's relationship with his 11 kids, including son Damian, 17, who is one of Musk's triplets with ex-wife Justine Wilson. While discussing how different the triplets are, Isaacson writes that Damian was an introvert and ate very little, announcing at age 8 that he was a vegetarian.

Asked why he wanted to give up meat, Damian tells Isaacson, "To decrease my carbon footprint."

Isaacson goes on to reveal that Damian became a classical music prodigy and excelled in math and physics. "I think Damian is brighter than you," Musk's mom Maye once told her son.

Musk shares six children with Wilson. He had his first son, Nevada Alexander, with Wilson in 2002, but at 10 weeks old he died from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

The former pair then welcomed twins Vivian Jenna Wilson and Griffin. One of Musk's now 18-year-old twins has filed to legally change her name and gender and said she no longer wishes to be related to her father, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.

Wilson then gave birth to triplets named Kai, Saxon, and Damian in 2006, two years after having their twins.

Musk later secretly welcomed another set of twins, son Strider and daughter Azure, with Shivon Zilis in November 2021, according to court documents published by Insider on July 6. The twins were born in Austin, Texas — just weeks before he and Grimes welcomed their daughter together.

The SpaceX founder shares his sons X Æ A-Xii "X," 3, and Techno Mechanicus, as well as daughter Exa Dark Sideræl, 20 months, with singer Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher.

In an interview with Financial Times in October 2022, the Tesla CEO opened up about whether or not he wanted to welcome more kids in the future. Asked if there are any other kids that Musk has fathered, the SpaceX founder told the outlet, "I'm pretty sure there are no other babies looming."

Despite saying otherwise, Musk, who referred to himself as an "autumn chicken" at 52 years old, shared that he may welcome more kids down the line, so long as he can be a good father to them.
