Ellie Goulding says 'motherhood has taken over everything' in her life

Ellie Goulding said her whole life has changed since she became a mother, admitting that parenthood has "influenced everything" about the way she lives.

In an interview with Fearne Cotton for Secret Socials with Hilton, Goulding said her new set of priorities has allowed her to unlock even more creative impulses.

The 35-year-old singer gave birth to her first son with husband Caspar Jopling in April 2021 and has tried to maintain a level of privacy around the life of their new arrival Arthur.

"Motherhood has taken over everything, it's influenced everything," Goulding told Cotton in the interview.

She added: "Obviously the first thing is like you just wanna be with your baby, all the time. And then it's just this whole new world of emotion and sleeplessness, a combination of that."

Goulding said she has been able to write several new songs during the last year and that the creative process has been coming "even more naturally" since she became a mum.

However, it could be some time before fans of the Starry Eyed singer are able to hear the new material she has been able to write.

The chart-topper said: "I haven't quite hit that point yet where I'm wanting to talk about this thing I have with my child, and this insane bond and connection, and with my husband."

Goulding and Jopling kept the pregnancy secret until the 30-week mark, with the couple opting to maintain privacy as they prepared for Arthur to be born.

She told Lorraine in September: "For every new mum it's daunting and I realised I had an opportunity to just be by myself and get to know all these new feelings and hormones and all that stuff.

"And I just did it by myself and just took it day by day, and it was just a chance for me to understand what was going on with my body, my mind. It was a nice, private time."

Goulding shot to fame when she won the BBC's Sound of... poll in 2010 and subsequently hit the number one spot with her debut album Lights, as well as earning three UK number one singles.
