Ellen Pompeo Says She Bought Hailey Bieber's Products for Daughter to Score 'Cool' Points

The 'Grey's Anatomy' star shared on Instagram that she was 'trying to be Mom of the Year' and impress 14-year-old Stella

Ellen Pompeo is campaigning for mom of the year.

The Grey's Anatomy star, 53, shared a video on Instagram explaining how she gained — and quickly lost — cool points while trying to impress her daughter with products from Hailey Bieber’s skincare brand, Rhode.

Pompeo began the video by acknowledging that she is in her “silent era” — she has not posted on Instagram since June — but adding that she is “here now,” as her daughter Stella Luna, 14, laughed off-camera.

“So I was trying to be Mom of the Year, or Mom of the Week or something, to the 14-year-old who’s so embarrassed right now,” she said. “And so I was like, ‘Oh, let me get her something super cool and then she’ll think I’m cool,’ and, you know, I’m just trying to stay cool, right? So look what I did.”

The mom of three held up a box decorated with the Rhode logo.

“Do you see it Stells? Are you ready?” she asked the teen, who recalled that when she saw the package in the mailbox, she initially thought it was PR.

“She thought I was on the PR list and I just got it sent to me. That would make me a cool mom,” Pompeo explained. “But when she found out that I just went online and ordered it like everybody else, my stock dropped, yo. It dropped.”

The actress handed her daughter the package, which contained all four shades of the brand’s peptide lip tints.

“So we’re gonna wait for the review, but so far the update is I’m not cool ‘cause I’m not on the Rhode PR list,” she joked. “Hailey, are you listening?”

“And what do you think?” Pompeo asked her daughter, who answered, “I love it. I’m excited to try it.”

The Grey's Anatomy star also appeared to be excited at the prospect of the lip tints, fanning them out and saying, “Look at all these gorgeous colors.”

The actress offered up praise for Bieber’s brand’s “beautiful” packaging. “Good job, Hailey,” she added.

Pompeo wrapped by saying that she had to “come on” and share the story because Stella made her feel “uncool,” to which her daughter responded, “You’re not uncool.”

“You just, like, went up points and then you’re back where you were,” the 14-year-old elaborated.

Rhode’s newest fan ended the video by offering a final bit of praise for 26-year-old Bieber.

“Listen, who even knows if there is a PR list,” Pompeo said. “Do you know how popular she is? She may not need to give anybody anything for free.”

“Anyway, that’s my story. Miss y’all,” she finished.

Pompeo’s cool points likely skyrocketed after she shared her video, as Bieber almost immediately responded, writing, “*adds Ellen to PR list immediately.”

“LOVE U SO MUCH!!!!!!” the founder added.

In addition to Stella, Pompeo also shares kids Sienna May, 9, and Eli Christopher, 6, with her husband, music producer Chris Ivery, whom she married in 2007.
