Ellen DeGeneres reveals her natural hair color after recovering from hair dye disaster

Ellen DeGeneres is showing off her natural hair color.

"Ellen" fans are used to the TV host's short blonde locks, but after a hair dye disaster left her hair damaged, the host decided to try a natural route.

In April, DeGeneres revealed a dye job left her hair in such bad shape that it was "falling out," forcing her to shave her head and start anew.

Now, DeGeneres is showing off what her hair looked like after growing back.

"Portia liked it, and a lot of people like it," she said of the natural look, which she showed a photo of on Tuesday's show. "It was the first time I had seen my natural color (in years)."

But if you like DeGeneres' brownish grey hair, you're out of luck.

The host added that she was "going to keep it that way" until her executive producer Mary convinced her to go back to blond.

"Anybody who gets their hair colored knows it's a hassle, and that's why I didn't want to do it again. So I go to get it colored, sit in the chair for two and a half hours and the color still wasn't right," she recounted. "So then I go back the next day, another two and a half hours."

She continued, pointing at her familiar blond cut, "And so, I don't know – five hours to color this."
