Ellen DeGeneres makes offer to Blake Shelton: Propose to Gwen Stefani on her show

Will Blake Shelton pop the question to his girlfriend Gwen Stefani anytime soon?

That was the big question on Ellen DeGeneres' mind, when she reminded Shelton that time waits for no one during his appearance on her talk show.

As a way to segue to the country music star's dating life, DeGeneres brought up a time on her show when she gifted him a giant clock with a picture of he and Stefani smooching.

"Let's talk about Gwen," DeGegeneres said in the clip published Friday. "Now I gave you a clock. Remember that clock I gave you? To remind you time is ticking."

Shelton, however, fired back he never got to keep the clock, so "time didn't really start ticking at that moment."

"But you didn't give it to me," he said. "Like, I walked backstage, and somebody back there was like, 'Hey, thanks for being on the show. Can I have that?' And they took it, and I haven't seen it."

He added: "You took it back because whoever your next guest was, you had replaced the picture and did the same thing. Same crap to them and embarrassed them."

DeGeneres wasn't fazed by Shelton's comeback, replying, "You're right, because we did that to Jennifer Lopez. And now she's engaged."

DeGeneres also offered Shelton a special opportunity to guest host "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" sometime. When Shelton hesitantly agreed, she gave him some ideas for what he could do on air.

"You can have Gwen on," she suggested. "You can have anybody on. You could propose to her here."

"You're right," Shelton replied. "I could. I'll save that for you and this show."

Blake Shelton addresses Gwen Stefani marriage rumors, Adam Levine leaving 'The Voice'

Shelton told ET Online in June he and Stefani plan on taking their relationship nice and slow.

"First of all, the rumors stuff, I'm not gonna sit here and say that it makes me mad," Shelton said of the marriage buzz. "It's funny. I've learned over the years just to take that for what it is."

So can fans expect a proposal down the road? The only guarantee, Shelton said, is you won't be reading about it in the tabloids.

"I promise you, we won't break the news in any of the grocery store trash magazines," he said.
