Ellen is officially back — but for a limited time only.

Ellen DeGeneres, one of the most successful comedians of the last three decades, is about to make her return to stand up after the unceremonious canceling of her popular daytime talk show.

DeGeneres' new special will be an hour long and will be released on Netflix later this year. It marks her return to Netflix after her 2018 special Relatable – the last stand up special she released – aired on the streamer.

In a statement about the new special, DeGeneres said, "To answer the questions everyone is asking me – Yes, I'm going to talk about it. Yes this is my last special. Yes, Portia really is that pretty in real life."

The "it" DeGeneres says she will talk about is probably the fact that she ended her popular daytime talk show after allegations that she was at the head of a toxic workplace environment. After ending her show, DeGeneres has not starred in any new comedy projects until now.

It's also notable that she says this will be her last special. Her other specials include the aforementioned Relatable, as well as two HBO specials, The Beginning and Here and Now.

In 2021, DeGeneres decided to end her 19-season-long daytime talk show The Ellen DeGeneres Show after accusations that the show had a toxic work environment that relied on bullying, racism, and insults came out.

Ellen's fall from grace came as a huge surprise to many, as she was seen as one of the faces of niceness and likeability on TV. However, after the allegations came out, her show's ratings tanked, going down by 40-59 percent in cities like New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

"When we started this show in 2003, the iPhone didn't exist. Social Media didn't exist. Gay marriage wasn't legal," DeGeneres wrote at the time. "We watched the world change, sometimes for the better, sometimes not. But whatever was happening, my goal was always for the show to be a place where we could all come together and laugh for an hour. Being invited into your lives has been the greatest privilege of my life and has brought me incredible joy. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you."
