Elle Fanning Circling Lead Role In Film Adaptation of Teresa Toten’s Novel ‘Beware That Girl’

EXCLUSIVE: Elle Fanning is in talks to take the lead role in Awesomeness Films’ adaptation of Beware That Girl, a film based on the YA book by Teresa Toten. Brian Robbins, Matt Kaplan, Brian Duffield and Nicki Cortese are producing.

Said to be in the vein of Gone Girl and The Girl On The Train, the psychological thriller is set against the backdrop of an elite Manhattan private school where two girls befriend, use, and manipulate each other in a game of cat and mouse. Kate is a scholarship student who survives by lying her way into friendships with wealthy classmates. Olivia is the “it” girl of the Upper East Side with a dark and mysterious past. When a charming and handsome new faculty member joins their school, the girls are forced to bring their secrets to light.

Totes other work includes the Blondes series, The Game, and The Unlikely Hero Of Room 13B, for which Kirkus named it one of their best teen books of 2015.

Fanning will next be seen in Mike Mills’ upcoming 20th Century Women which gets its Oscar-qualifying over the Christmas holiday, and in Ben Affleck’s Live by Night. The young actress has a number of starring roles coming up including Reed Morano’s sci-fi film I Think We’re Alone Now, opposite Peter Dinklage, Sofia Copppla’s The Beguiled, and John Cameron Mitchell’s How To Talk To Girls At Parties. She is repped by WME and Echo Lake Entertainment.
