Elizabeth Chambers Says Armie Hammer Divorce and Scandal Was 'Absolute Hell': 'Ready for a Fresh Start'

"A lot of the trauma that I have experienced in the last two years is behind me," she said on the premiere episode of 'Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise'

Elizabeth Chambers is reflecting on her "painful" divorce with ex-husband Armie Hammer and the scandals that followed.

On the premiere episode of the new Freeform reality series Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise, the BIRD Bakery founder, 41, opened up about moving on after her breakup with the actor, 37.

"I moved here with my husband and children three years ago. But things have changed since then," Chambers said, before adding, "The 'Cayman Curse' is when a couple moves to the island together and then they end up separating or divorcing — and it tracks."

Chambers and Hammer married in 2010 and later announced their split in July 2020. They share two kids, Harper, 9, and Ford, 7. After they parted ways, Hammer was accused by multiple women of abuse, which he denied.

On Grand Cayman, Chambers said, "I went through a very public divorce that was riddled with scandal. Stories were coming out each day and horrific articles, and I was learning about them as it happened."

"Our divorce is almost final, but it's not easy," she added on the show, which was filmed in spring 2023. "The life that we had planned for years basically shattered. That was a really painful period of time."

Chambers said having her divorce play out "on a more public platform" was an "absolute hell" and she "wouldn't wish it upon anyone."

"A lot of the trauma that I have experienced in the last two years is behind me," said Chambers on the show. "And now I think I'm very much at a place where I'm ready for a fresh start on the island."

On the first episode of Grand Cayman, Hammer became the topic of conversation as the cast reacted to the controversies. During filming, Hammer's silence-breaking February 2023 Air Mail interview was published, igniting further questions and scrutiny on Chambers.

During the episode, a producer asked Chambers, "How does it feel when an article like this comes out?" She then shut it down, saying, "No. End of discussion."

Later, she said, "You can write something for clickbait. You can write something for headlines. You can write something for sensation. But ultimately only I know the truth. I'm not f---ing playing that game."

"I lived it. I know it. I know the truth. So at the end of the day, unless you were there, you don't know," added Chambers.

Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise airs Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. ET on Freeform and can be streamed the next day on Hulu.
