ELITE 8: Find all the South Shore MIAA hockey and basketball quarterfinal results here

The South Shore high school sports scene is plenty busy this weekend. A whopping 27 hockey and basketball teams were competing in the MIAA Elite Eights with spots in the state semifinals on the line.

Braintree boys hockey kicked off the big weekend on Thursday, but their upset bid against No. 1 St. John's Prep fell just short.

Thursday, March 10

BOYS HOCKEY

Div. 1 - St. John's Prep 3, Braintree 2: The No. 9 Wamps fell just short of knocking off top-seeded SJP. Goaltender Jack Fitzgerald played well in defeat while Owen Flynn and Garrett Coughlin scored in the loss.

Friday, March 11

BOYS BASKETBALL

Div. 5 - Paulo Friere 85, Hull 63: The No. 12 Pirates could not upset the No. 4 seed.

Div. 2 - Scituate 61, Wakefield 53: The No. 13 Sailors will play No. 1 Malden Catholic in the state semifinals. Keegan Sullivan led the way with 23 points for Scituate (18-5) while Michael Porter (15 points) and John Kinsley (14) also played well.

Div. 4 - Randolph 61, Wareham 46: The top-seeded Blue Devils (21-1) advanced to the state semifinals as Stevens Joacine scored 18 points and Marquis White added 16. Josiah Osuji starred defensively. Randolph will play the winner of Sunday's game between No. 4 Wahconah Regional (16-6) and No. 12 Manchester Essex (18-4).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Div. 2 - Medfield 67, Canton 36: The No. 10 Bulldogs fell short against the No. 2 seed.

Div. 3 - Medway 48, East Bridgewater 38: Juniors Phoebe Katilus (13 points) and Sophie Bradbury (11) led the way offensively, but the Vikings couldn't knock off the top seed.

Div. 4 - South Hadley 52, Cohasset 43: The No. 16 Skippers lost on the road to the No. 8 seed. Sarah Chenette scored 21 points in the loss while Abbie Goff had 8 points.

Div. 2 - Whitman-Hanson 43, Walpole 41: The No. 5 Panthers (21-2) advanced to the state semifinals behind 14 points from Megan Stone. W-H will play No. 1 Norwood (23-0) in the state semifinal after the Mustangs' 57-39 win over No. 8 North Quincy (24-1) on Saturday.

Div. 2 - Oliver Ames 84, Dracut 64: The No. 3 Tigers (20-3) advance to face No. 2 Medfield (20-3) in the state semifinals. Caroline Peper and Jasmyn Cooper each scored 23 points in the win. Ashlee Talbot scored 40 points for Dracut in the loss. Sarah Hilliard added 16 points, 16 rebounds and 7 assists for OA.

Div. 3 - Rockland 46, Dover-Sherborn 44: The fourth-seeded Bulldogs (20-3) scored the winning basket in the final minute – Maggie Elie with an off-balance layup off a high screen from her sister Julia – to advance to the state semifinals against No. 1 Medway (21-3). Julia Elie starred with 27 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks. Sydney Blaney drained three 3-pointers and Maggie Elie chipped in 7 points and 6 rebounds.

Div. 3 - Bishop Fenwick 64, Norwell 49: The No. 3 Clippers were eliminated by the No. 6 seed.

Div. 5 - Hoosac Valley 66, Carver 32: The No. 8 Crusaders fell to the top seed.

BOYS HOCKEY

Div. 2 - Duxbury 3, Masconomet 2 (OT): Aidan Harrington's second goal of the night was an overtime winner for the Dragons off an assist from Brendan Bonner. Brady Glass had a goal and an assist and Sam Mazanec stopped 38 shots in net. No. 5 Duxbury (14-9-2) will play No. 1 Tewksbury (20-2) in the state semifinals.

Div. 2 - Tewksbury 4, Silver Lake 1: The ninth-seeded Lakers (18-6) fell behind 3-0 in the first period and could not recover against top-seeded Tewksbury (20-2) in a game marred by multiple ejections. Aiden Dunphy scored Silver Lake's goal.

Saturday, March 12

BOYS BASKETBALL

Div. 2 - Malden Catholic 95, North Quincy 54: The top-seeded Lancers advance to play Scituate in the state semifinal. Daithi Quinn scored a team-high 14 points in the loss. MC was led Quincy resident Anthony Felder (30 points) and Stoughton resident K.C. Ugwuakazi (10 points, 19 rebounds).

Div. 1 - BC High 75, Central Catholic 62: Mike Loughnane led four Eagles in double digits with 25 points. BC High advances to the state semifinals for the first time since 2008.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Div. 2 - Norwood 57, North Quincy 39: The No. 8 Raiders (24-1) fell against the top seed. Orlagh Gormley scored 13 in the loss.

BOYS HOCKEY

Div. 3 - Scituate 6, Nashoba 1: Six different goal scorers (Dylan McDonald, Danny Brown, James Sullivan, Teagan Pratt, Brendan Boyle, Andrew Belsan) led the Sailors to the win. Scituate will play Hanover in the state semifinals (date, time and location TBD).

Div. 3 - Hanover 2, Medway 1: Max DaSilva and Nate Patch scored as the No. 3 Hawks advanced to the state semifinal where they'll meet familiar foe Scituate (date, time and location TBD).

Div. 1 - Arlington 4, Hingham 2: Arlington broke a 2-2 tie with a late goal and added an empty-net goal.

Div. 2 - Canton 3, Walpole 2 (OT): AJ Thomas scored an overtime winner as the No. 3 Bulldogs advanced to the state semifinal to play No. 2 Gloucester.

Div. 1 - BC High 1, Austin Prep 0: The No. 13 Eagles pulled off another upset and eliminated the No. 5 seed. Joe Feinberg scored the lone goal for BC High, which will play No. 1 St. John's Prep in the state semifinals (date, time, location TBD).

Div. 4 - Norwell 7, Assabet Valley 1: The top-seeded Clippers (21-1) rolled into the state semifinals by beating No. 9 Assabet Valley (14-6). Norwell will face No. 4 Sandwich (16-4-3) next (details TBA).

GIRLS HOCKEY

Div. 2 - Canton 3, Duxbury 0: Tess Khoury scored twice, and Allie McCabe added a goal as the ninth-seeded Bulldogs eliminated No. 1 Duxbury (19-3-2) to advance to the Final Four. In the state semifinals, Canton (17-6) will face No. 5 Natick.

Div. 1 - Shrewsbury 2, Notre Dame Academy 1 (OT): Devon Moore scored in the loss for NDA.

Div. 2 - Natick 3, Archbishop Williams 2: Karaline O'Toole scored both goals for the Bishops, but Natick scored twice in the final minute to advance to the state semifinals.
