Elijah Wood Discusses Hypothetical Frodo and Harry Potter Wrestling Match on ‘Conan’

On Conan, Elijah Wood told host Conan O’Brien, that people still keep talking about how he looks like Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe. “After a while, it hits the Internet, and it becomes a thing and people talk about it for a while, and you think, ‘OK, we get it. The joke is over and it will die,’” Woods said. “But it just has long legs, and it keeps going.”

Wood told Conan about the Fantastic Debates, at the annual Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas. Basically, two people debate and then follow it up with a boxing match. Wood participated in 2011 with fellow Lord of the Rings co-star Dominic Monaghan. Apparently, the event organizers wanted Wood to box Radcliffe.

“It almost became a thing this year,” teased Woods. “I ultimately squashed it, because I was like, I don’t want to fight this guy. I don’t want the culmination of the fact that we look alike or sometimes get mistaken for each other to end up being in a boxing ring.”

O’Brien came up with an excellent idea: a fight where Wood dresses up as Frodo and Radcliffe dresses as Harry Potter. Sidekick Andy Richter thought Wood would win easily. “You get a sword,” Richter chimed in. “He has a wand. And magic is bulls***, so you’ll be really tough on him.”

Who would win in a fight between Frodo and Harry Potter? Well, Frodo would definitely get points for agility, and having a sword helps. But Harry’s magical powers are a real wrinkle. I guess in a fight between the two, the winner would be … Batman. Because Batman always wins.
