Techno star Eli Brown is playing sold-out shows to thousands of fans around the world each week, but when it came to launching his own clothing line, the DJ decidedly wanted to play it small.

Brown’s new apparel line, “92 Thing,” drops this week with a limited run of just 200 units, making it a grail-worthy get for fans of the British musician and producer. For Brown, the desire to keep the first release intimate was a conscious decision to create something special for his followers. “I’ve never been one to follow the rules,” he tells Rolling Stone. “When I create – be it my music or now streetwear – I’m always trying to find ways to set myself apart from what everyone else is doing in that space and really make it my own.” To wit: “I would much rather be a little disruptive to deliver an end product to my fans that feels genuine to who I am, than to simply just go with the status quo because it’s an easier route.”
Inspired by the 1992 rave scene in Brown’s hometown of Bristol, England, 92 Thing launches with two bold and graphic T-shirt styles that speak to the “time of resistance and rebellion,” per Brown, who cites British acts like Chemical Brothers and Prodigy as influences. “My career was quite literally born that year in those underground spaces, and the experiences I had continue to inform my productions to this day,” he says.
Brown has a busy summer ahead of him, with a full slate of shows booked across North America and Europe (see tickets here), but he says he’s feeling as excited about 92 Thing as he is about his music. “With music, I always like to start with a solid source of inspiration whether it’s an initial idea, a sample or something that provides a jumping off point to build on,” he explains. “With 92 Thing, it was pretty much the same.”
