At the 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards on Sunday (May 7), award-winning actress and musician Hailee Steinfeld walked the red carpet in her usual feminine yet edgy style.

Steinfeld, who was nominated for best performance in a movie for her role as Nadine in The Edge of Seventeen, stunned in a lavender Fausto Puglisi minidress. In collaboration with celebrity stylist duo Rob + Mariel — the two have worked with Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce, Katy Perry, and Gwen Stefani, to name a few huge acts — the star pulled off the clean, effortless look.

“The silhouette of the dress is classic — it might be something you would have seen on Naomi or Christy in the ’90s —  yet the ornate embellishments, gorgeous shade of pale plum and cut-outs around the waist make it a total, modern day showstopper,” Mariel + Rob explained to Billboard. “Hailee has this incredible way of looking put together yet completely effortless at the same time, while balancing freshness and sophistication. This dress is the perfect answer to that.”

Rob + Mariel considered designers Steinfeld also loves to wear — Jason Wu, Balmain, Elie Saab and David Koma — when choosing the perfect red carpet look for tonight’s event. The duo likes to play with femininity and boundary-pushing when it comes to the singer/actor’s style. “For example, [we would style] a gorgeous flowing gown with interesting cutouts and a train, or a minidress with intricate beading and black thigh-high boots. There’s always a balance between sophisticated and youthful/modern.”

As well as dressing the star, Rob + Mariel count themselves as Steinfeld supporters. “We are massive fans of Hailee and anything she does! [Edge of Seventeen] was the perfect hilarious and heartfelt coming-of-age story. She was incredible in it, as per usual.”
