Ballet flats are officially back in style, but they've always been a favorite in the South. A lady-like staple you can pair with a church dress or a pair of Levi's, this classic, comfortable, and chic choice of footwear has a special place in a Southern woman's closet. As one editor says, "I always feel dressed up when I put my ballet flats on!"

And because these shoes can and will be worn with anything, it's important to do your research when investing in a new pair. When shopping for ballet flats, you'll want to consider the price point, your personal style, as well as different scenarios in which you can picture yourself wearing them. For instance, if you have a wardrobe of mostly neutrals, do you want to add a pop of color in your shoe choice? Will you be wearing these shoes running errands around town? If so, perhaps you want to invest in a pair that can be thrown in the washing machine for a quick refresh.

In any case, we've done some of the research for you and have rounded up our editors' favorite ballet flats. These are the 10 styles our editors have worn and sworn by for years, or are hoping to add to their closet soon.

Sam Edelman Meadow Ballet Flat

Sam Edelman is a brand known for making classic ballet flats that soon become wardrobe staples. For Senior Social Media Editor Brennan Long, that style is the Meadow—and she prefers them in the gold hue. "I love in gold because my grandmother always wore gold shoes as her neutral," she says.

Tory Burch Minnie Travel Ballet Flat

Former ballerina Mary Alice Russell, Editorial Fellow, likes a flat that folds in half because, as she says, the style feels most true to authentic ballet slippers. She owns these Tory Burch flats, which are great for traveling, as well as the Tieks that Kimberly Holland endorses below.

Schutz Arissa Flat

After years of wear-and-tear on my favorite ballet flats, it's sadly time for me to find a replacement pair. And this is the style in my own shopping cart. After much research in person and online, I landed on this style because the square toe feels fresh but also timeless. I also prefer more coverage on the front of my foot, so that was the highest priority in my search for a new favorite.

Margaux The Demi

Speaking of shoes I've tried and loved, this is a ballet flat I own in two colors, pale pink and blue. The leather feels luxurious, and the colors are beautiful and age well. This flat is definitely ballet-inspired, with a sweet bow and more dainty, minimal coverage at the toe of the foot. Personally, I prefer a slightly higher toe but the quality is unmatched. Long is also glad she treated herself to a pair while they were on sale!

J. Crew Zoe Ballet Flats in Italian Patent Leather

Another favorite of Long's? The ever-classic J. Crew flat. This shoe truly never goes out of style—and pro tip: it often goes on sale, meaning you can make a smart investment in real leather at a fraction of the price.

Tieks by Gavrieli Ballet Flat

"I live and breathe Tieks," admits Senior Digital Food Editor Kimberly Holland. "I prefer their style and fit because it stays on my foot better, and has more cushion than most inexpensive ballet flats. Also, they look brand new still, and I wear them all the time." Plus, they come in so, so many colors from classic black and ballerina pink to lilac, coral, and cobalt blue.

Rothy's 'The Point' Toe Flats

Holland is also a fan of Rothy's ballet flats (and the sneakers, which she says she wears 24/7 on the weekends). No matter the style of shoe, every pair of Rothy's is crafted in the brand's signature material that is washable and made from recycled water bottles.

LOFT Leather Ballet Flats

This slightly more affordable ballet flat comes in six pretty colors, including green, pink, and orange. "I’m not typically a ballet flat person, but these would be such a fun pop of color for someone who has a more neutral classic closet," says Digital Editor Kaitlyn Yarborough.

Birdies The Goldfinch

Home and Gardens Editor Betsy Cribb is a Birdies loyalist. "I always reach for my Birdies because they’re just so comfortable," she says. "Because they feel like house slippers rather than stiff dress shoes, I feel like I’m getting away with something when I wear them to work. Birdies’ pointy-toed Goldfinch style looks elevated with dresses and denim, and I have my eye on the new raspberry raffia ones for spring and summer."

Loeffler Randall Leonie Ballet Flats

"I'm currently obsessed with the Loeffler Randall flats," adds Russell, who is a fan of flats with an elastic bridge strap in general. "I like this style because as someone who grew up dancing, it feels closest to a true ballet slipper which is important to me!"
