Eddie Murphy has been engaged to his fiancée Paige Butcher since 2018.

Murphy, who’s often considered one of the greatest comedians, was married to Nicole Murphy from 1993 to 2005 and has five children with her. He also shares three children with former partners Paulette McNeely, Tamara Hood and Mel B.

Following his relationship with TV producer Tracey Edmonds, which ended in 2008, Murphy kept a lower dating profile until he was spotted with Butcher.

The Candy Cane Lane actor started dating the Australian model in 2012, and the couple are often photographed hand-in-hand at red carpet events. Still, they try to keep their romance out of the spotlight.

Over the years though, the longtime pair have celebrated relationship milestones, including welcoming two children together and getting engaged.

Despite their mostly private union, Murphy has stated he is committed to his fiancée and children. He told Vanity Fair in a 2020 interview, “My career, or what I am as an artist, that’s not at the center of my life. At the center of my life is my family and my kids.

So who is Eddie Murphy’s fiancée? Here’s everything to know about Paige Butcher and her relationship with the comedian.

Butcher was born in Perth, Australia. According to a 2013 interview with Vanity Fair, her mother was a fashion designer, and Butcher wore her clothing as a child. After a handful of years of doing so, she received compliments that inspired her career path.

“I was modeling for my mum’s stuff, and everybody said, ‘You should be a model.’ So at 13, I started really taking it more seriously,” she said.

While working as a model, she also attended Santa Maria College, a Catholic girls' school in the riverside suburb of Attadale, Australia.

After graduating, Butcher won the 1994 Cover Girl Cosmetics Supermodel Search and earned an IMG modeling contract, The West Australian reported. The opportunity secured her a trip to New York City, where she worked for several magazines and brands over the next decade, including landing a Maxim cover in 2004.

"I've always only wanted to model. It really is the only life I want," Butcher said, per The West Australian.

Around this time, she also started pivoting into the acting world. Following a minor role in the 2003 romantic comedy Something’s Gotta Give, Butcher was cast in the 2006 comedy sequel Big Momma’s House 2 as an extra.

The model gave birth to Izzy on May 3, 2016, weighing 7 lbs., 15 oz. The pair later welcomed Max on Nov. 30, 2018, who was born weighing 6 lbs., 11 oz.

A source told PEOPLE before Max’s birth that they were “very happy” to be expecting another baby, and that they wanted a younger sibling for Izzy.

Meanwhile, Butcher is also stepmother to Murphy’s eight children, and a source told PEOPLE in 2018 that she is “very close with Eddie’s kids.” In 2016, the two joined Murphy's ex-wife, Nicole, at the premiere of their daughter Bria’s new movie.

Butcher might be in the public eye, but she likes her privacy.

In her 2013 interview with Vanity Fair, she touched on her relationship with Murphy when asked why she avoids posting on social media, saying, “I’m in a relationship with a celebrity, so I felt like there’s already enough of me out there.”

Butcher also revealed that she had accounts on Facebook, Instagram and X (formerly known as Twitter) in the past but “eventually got rid of all of them.”

She explained, “I like to keep as much private as possible now. People will use anything against you. The more you put out, the more you get back. I just wasn’t using it. And I was really boring. I would just post my volunteer work.”

Her fiancé also stays off social media. “I don’t need to be on social media interacting with the fans, tweeting that I just ate strawberries," Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast in 2016."

"I’m checking y’all out while y’all are doing it, but nothing has made me go ‘I wanna be on there with y’all,’ " he added.

Butcher’s particularly interested in staying active, but, as she told Vanity Fair in 2013, she prefers to do it without gym equipment.

She explained that, as an Australian, she likes the outdoors and gardening. After living in N.Y.C. for 14 years, Butcher moved to L.A. "mainly for the lifestyle," and she aims to incorporate fitness into her daily life — like hiking, biking and even doing lunges in the kitchen while waiting for water to boil.

"I like going to the beach in Venice and riding my bike for a couple hours," Butcher said. "I get very bored working out. I would rather do something fun."

She’s involved in charity work

Butcher told Vanity Fair in 2013 that she began working with Habitat for Humanity when she first moved to N.Y.C., saying, “I’ve always wanted to do charity stuff. I’m such a nurturer and love taking care of people.”

Other organizations she’s been involved with include New York Cares and Kids Enjoy Exercise Now. When she moved to L.A., she volunteered at homeless shelters and helped the nonprofit Baby2Baby put together essential items for children.

"The charity sends care packages with toys, things for the kids, diapers, strollers, and stuff. So I go there and help them out," Butcher said.

She called Murphy “very sweet and romantic"

Butcher doesn’t often do interviews but spoke about her fiancé on the red carpet at the 2020 Golden Globes.

When asked what he whispered to her on the red carpet, Murphy told Extra, “I told her how wonderful she looks.”

"He actually says that kind of stuff all the time," Butcher chimed in. "He's very, very sweet and romantic."

Three years later, Murphy thanked Butcher, along with his children for their "love and support," when he was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the same award event.
