Eddie Murphy, Tracee Ellis Ross To Star In Comedy ‘Candy Cane Lane’

Eddie Murphy and Tracee Ellis Ross have been tapped to star in Amazon Prime’s Candy Cane Lane. The streaming service announced on Tuesday (Sept. 5) that the pair’s new film would be released on Dec. 1, 2023. Variety reported that the movie will be directed by Reginald Hudlin, who directed Murphy’s 1992 movie Boomerang. Candy Cane Lane will mark the first time in his career that the 62-year-old has starred in his own Christmas movie.

Hudlin spoke about his excitement for the film and how long he’s wanted to make his own Christmas movie with Murphy. “I can’t wait for the world to see Candy Cane Lane,'” Hudlin said. “I’ve wanted to make a Christmas movie my whole life, but I wanted to do something fresh and surprising. Eddie Murphy and this hilarious cast really bring the funny, it’s super Christmas-y, and it will hit you right in the feels.”

Candy Cane Lane will follow the story of Chris (Murphy), who is determined to be his neighborhood’s decoration champion. After making a deal with an elf, the mythical being casts a spell that brings the 12 Days of Christmas fable to life. Chris then shifts his attention to saving Christmas for his friends and family as he fights with otherworldly beings.

Along with the comedic legend, the cast features an all-star ensemble. The film’s cast includes Tracee Ellis Ross as Chris’ wife, D.C. Young Fly, Thaddeus J. Mixson, Nick Offerman, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, Robin Thede, Chris Redd, Genneya Walton, Madison Thomas, Ken Marino, and Nancy Lenehan.

Kelly Younger penned the screenplay inspired by Younger’s childhood experiences on El Segundo’s Candy Cane Lane, and Doug Merrifield serves as executive producerMurphyBrian Grazer, Charisse Hewitt-Webster, and Karen Lunder serve as the film’s producers.
