Eddie Murphy is back and cracking down on crime in the new Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F trailer.

On Thursday (Dec. 14), Netflix released the teaser showing off the latest addition to the 80s franchise. The Mark Mallow-directed visuals follow Murphy’s Axel Foley as he returns to Beverly Hills.

Fans of the beloved franchise will be delighted as they catch a glimpse of Judge Reinhold and John Ashton reprising their roles as fan favorites Lt. Billy Rosewood and Sgt. John Taggart. Foley can be seen gearing up as he departs his hometown of Detroit. Rocking his signature Detroit Lions varsity jacket, the character picks up where BHC 3 left off. Foley takes down two criminals in the teaser and also shares a classic car scene with Taggart and Rosewood.

Murphy shed light on the new movie during an exclusive interview with People. He detailed his experience shooting the movie. Murphy admitted this time around was “hard” due to his older age.

“It’s a really physical movie and I had to do some physical stuff,” he disclosed. “I like to be on the couch, I don’t like to be jumping over and shooting and running. And I had to do some jumping and shooting and running. As a result… at the end of the movie, I had a knee brace, and my back was messed up. But the movie is gonna be special.”

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, a newcomer to the franchise, spoke to Variety about his admiration for the comedic legend. Godon-Levitt expressed that fans of the classic franchise would love the new film. “There’s a reason Eddie Murphy is Eddie Murphy — and that will be very clear to anybody watching this movie,” Joseph said. “Going to work on Beverly Hills Cop isn’t like work. You think my life is a dream. I’m riding in a helicopter next to Eddie Murphy, and we’re making each other laugh.”

Along with Gordon-Levitt, Kevin Bacon, and Taylour Paige join the cast. Paul Reiser, Mark Pelligrino, and Bronson Pinchot also star in the anticipated film. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who worked on the original Beverly Hills Cop, returns for the new movie. Ray Angelic and Charisse M. Hewitt will be Axel F’s executive producer. Will Beall, Tom Gormican, and Kevin Etten wrote the script. The movie was based on characters crafted by Danilo Bach and Daniel Petrie, Jr.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is set to release on Netflix in the summer of 2024.
