It’s unclear what the statute of limitations is on bringing a decades-dormant franchise back for another sequel. But all we know is that Eddie Murphy is finally back on duty as Axel Foley after 30 long years in the new Netflix trailer for the newly rechristened Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. Watch the newly revealed trailer below.
Set for release on July 3rd, 2024, the fourth installation of the beloved police comedy franchise sees Foley’s tried and true detective squad join forces alongside some fresh faces. According to the Netflix synopsis, Zola breakout star Taylour Paige plays Foley’s daughter — whose unexpected close call with danger causes her to team up with her father and his new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) to uncover an all-new conspiracy. Original cast members Judge Reinhold and John Ashton are set to return as Foley’s old colleagues, who are eager to help on the case.
After the release of the first three films in 1984, 1987, and 1994, the fourth installation of Beverly Hills Cop was stuck in “development hell” for years — finally being released after Paramount sold the franchise rights to Netflix in 2019.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is directed by Mark Molloy, with a screenplay written by Will Beall, Kevin Etten, and Tom Gormican.
