Eddie Murphy’s First Holiday Comedy ‘Candy Cane Lane’ Gets December Release

Eddie Murphy is spreading magical mayhem with his new film Candy Cane Lane.

Directed by Reginald Hudlin and written by Kelly Younger, the holiday comedy is set to debut globally Dec. 1 on Prime Video. Alongside Murphy, who is starring in his first holiday movie role, is an all-star cast, including Tracee Ellis Ross, Nick Offerman, Robin Thede and Chris Redd.

The comedy icon stars as Chris, a man set on winning his neighborhood’s annual Christmas home decoration contest. After he inadvertently strikes a deal with Pepper, an elf (Jillian Bell), to increase his probability of winning, she casts a spell to bring the 12 Days of Christmas to life. It’s a move by the mischievous spirit that wreaks havoc on Chris’ entire town.

In the face of a ruined holiday for his family, Chris — with help from his wife Carol (Tracee Ellis Ross) and their three children — races against the clock to not only break Pepper’s spell, but fight deviously magical characters and save Christmas.

The comedy also stars Thaddeus J. Mixson, Ken Marino, Genneya Walton, Madison Thomas, D.C. Young Fly, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes and Nancy Lenehan.

Candy Cane Lane is executive produced by Murphy, alongside Brian Grazer, Karen Lunder and Charisse Hewitt-Webster. Doug Merrifield executive produces.

Murphy last starred in Kenya Barris’ Netflix romantic comedy You People, opposite Jonah Hill, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Nia Long, David Duchovny and Lauren London. In 2021, he starred in the Prime Video release Coming 2 America, a sequel to his 1988 hit Coming to America. He’s next expected to appear in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley, the fourth installment of the Beverly Hills Cop buddy-comedy franchise, directed by Mark Molloy.
