Ed Sheeran revealed that he’s working on new music — but don’t expect to hear it anytime soon.

In a new interview with People, the singer-songwriter was asked if he could say anything about the music he was working on, to which he replied, “That I’m working on them and they’re new songs.”

He added: “But nothing’s going to come out this year,” he says. “I’m enjoying being on tour. I released two records on tour last year and it’s quite a lot being on tour and releasing records. So, I’ve made the new music and I’m just going to sit on it for a bit.”

Sheeran is coming off a wildly busy 2023, which began last May with the release of his sixth album (and final mathematical-themed offering) – (Subtract). The Rolling Stone cover star followed that LP up a few months later with Autumn Variations, a 14-track collection made entirely with the National’s Aaron Dessner (with one additional contribution from his brother, Bryce Dessner).

Subtract did earn Sheeran a Grammy nomination earlier this year for Best Pop Vocal Album, though that prize ultimately went to his friend Taylor Swift for Midnights. But, Sheeran did come away with his first Emmy Award, winning Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for his Ted Lasso finale tune, “A Beautiful Game.”

Sheeran spent much of 2023 on the road, and he’ll continue to tour throughout the summer. He’s set to play a show in Hollywood, Florida tonight, and later this month, on May 22, he’ll celebrate the 10th anniversary of his album X (Multiply) with a special concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. After that, he’ll headline Boston Calling in Boston and BottleRock in Napa Valley, California, before touring Europe for the rest of the summer (with one additional show planned in Brazil).
