Ed Sheeran is definitely "happier" now.

On Tuesday, the "Shape of You" musician, 32, reacted to his first-ever win at the 2023 Creative Emmy Awards the night prior. Sheeran took home an Emmy for outstanding original music and lyrics for "A Beautiful Game," which was featured in the season 3 finale of Ted Lasso.

"We won an Emmy last night. I was not expecting to win at all, it was a real real surprise waking up to the news, I wish I had been there but I’m just about to kick off the Asia tour so had to be elsewhere sadly," Sheeran wrote on Instagram alongside video footage of him collaborating in the studio on the track with co-writers Foy Vance and Max Martin.

He continued: "I wrote a song for Ted Lasso with Max Martin and @foyvance called ‘A Beautiful Game’. We were all fans of the show and got asked to do a song for the finale, so 2 years ago this month we got in together and wrote a song about love and football, and how it is always about the journey rather than the destination."

Sheeran noted that he recorded the audience at one of his concerts "singing the final chant to keep it in the footie [v]ibes."

The "Perfect" performer acknowledged his "fantastic" competition in the category, which included Ginny & Georgia, The L Word: Generation Q, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Ted Lasso — nominated twiceand Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.

While Sheeran acknowledged he didn't think they "had a chance in hell of winning," he was grateful for the win.

"Thank you so much for whoever voted for it, and to Max, Foy and all the Lasso crew. I really am honoured. The song is out everywhere on all platforms if you haven’t heard it yet. Love you all ! And happy new year, see ya on the road x," he concluded.

Sheeran released "A Beautiful Game" in May and announced the single just one day before the finale was set to air, though he had been working on it for quite some time.

"I recorded bits of it whilst on tour using crowds from the stadiums that I've been playing, and I’m super, super, super proud of it," Sheeran said in an Instagram video. "I love the show. I've loved working on this song. I hope you enjoy it — just a bit of fun. Football!"

Ted Lasso premiered in August 2020 and aired for three seasons. Since its premiere, Jason Sudeikis — who plays Ted Lasso himself — has won 11 Emmys Awards for the role.
